Format: DVD
Set in 1928,this is based on a true story & stars Chad lowe as Billy,a 16yr old who upon meeting the eccentric travelling preacher/healer Dr Reese(played by Donald sutherland)becomes his apprentice.Dr reeses practises are seen as witchery by the god fearing community & they soon find themselves accused of murder.
A very slow moving movie with a very misleading cover as this is definitely not a horror, there is nothing scary about this film!

I really, really liked this film. It is about a Hexmeister who takes a young recruit under his wing. It is creepy in places and the ending is pretty spooky and cool!

HASH(0x9d5a336c) out of 5 stars Very Interesting! 30 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Apprentice to Murder does not accurately decribe what really happened but, it was a very interesting movie about mayhem, the negative effects of brainwashing, and the downside of what Christianity occasionally does to people. Good theme and acting! Hard to believe that this occurred in the Pennsylvania German Community!

HASH(0x9d5c9ccc) out of 5 stars Apprentice to Murder not such a true story 20 Mar. 2013

This film is supposedly based on the book Hex about a killing that happened in my hometown, York, Pennsylvania. Other than the setting in an unnamed Pennsylvania town near Philadelphia, and that a pow-wow kills a man that's wreaking evil on people in the town, including the pow-wow, this film fell far from the true story. The real story was very suspenseful; this film was predictable and kinda boring. As always, Donald Sutherland was great and it was nice to see what might have been Chad Lowe's first film, but I wouldn't buy it again.
HASH(0x9cf0a9f0) out of 5 stars Incomplete Movie 5 Dec. 2013

This movie is dated and although the actors try hard, it is disjointed and the story line jumps and doesn't fully explain itself. It isn't a horror movie per se, more about the beliefs and customs of the Pennsylvania Dutch but doesn't do a good job of letting you know what is going on and why. Donald Sutherland is wasted but tries hard and a young Chad Lowe is engaging but they can't save this badly written script.

Good movie, yet weird. I have 16 more words to go, so here they are. It is more of a cult classic.
