Product description

Product Description

The new Mac mini can be mixed and matched with all your favourite Mac acccessories.

Introducing the New Mac mini

With its ultra-thin aluminium design, huge selection of ports to connect all your favourite peripherals (including your HDTV), increased graphical power and memory storage, what you do with your all-new Mac mini is up to you.

An Incredibly Compatible Computer

If you already have it, chances are you can use it with Mac mini. Plug in your own display, keyboard and mouse. Turn it on. And just like that, everything works together. You can even swap peripherals with another desktop computer. That’s one of the great things about Mac mini. You can mix and match it with just about anything.

Mac Mini Comes to the Big Screen

It’s easy to connect Mac mini to the biggest screen in the house--your HDTV--courtesy of a built-in HDMI port. Plug in one HDMI cable and start enjoying content on your Mac mini in brilliant HD. Like films and TV programmes from iTunes, the Internet and your photo library. There’s also a handy control that lets you easily adjust the output on Mac mini to fill even the biggest HDTV screen. And when you just want to listen to music, you can play your entire iTunes collection through your home entertainment centre, or stream it to a set of speakers in any room via an AirPort Express Base Station.

A Great Little Performer

Souped-up Graphics

Mac mini refuses to act its size. It gives you next-generation NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics--the fastest integrated graphics processor on the market today--and speedy DDR3 memory. With 48 processing cores and 256 MB of shared video memory, this graphics processor delivers up to twice the performance of the previous generation. It brings more pixel-pushing power to the latest 3D games and graphics-intensive applications. And you’ll notice a big difference when you work with high-resolution photos and high-definition video. The most surprising part? You don’t have to sacrifice efficiency for speed. The NVIDIA GeForce 320M is more energy efficient than its predecessor. All of which proves you really can do more with less.

More Memory, More Oomph

A little Mac mini goes a long way. With up to 8GB of memory, Mac mini supports twice the memory of the previous generation. So now you can run more applications at the same time. Mac mini is powered by a 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with a superfast 1066MHz frontside bus and 3MB of L2 cache for a nice little performance boost. Which goes to show that size can be deceiving.

Instant Connection

The latest 802.11n wireless technology is built into every Mac mini. It automatically connects to your Wi-Fi network, so you can get right down to surfing the web, printing and streaming your music wirelessly. Bluetooth wireless technology is also built in, so you can connect accessories such as a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Easily organise your photos, movies and music using the included iLife software. View larger.

The Things You Do Every Day--Better

The things you do most often on a computer, like browsing the web, checking email and working with Microsoft Office files, are some of the things a Mac does best.

Perfect for Everyday Everything

A Mac comes with everything you need for your email, calendar, contacts, browsing the Internet and more. It’s all part of the Mac operating system: Mac OS X Snow Leopard. And since Apple makes the applications, they all work together seamlessly.

Do Amazing Things with Photos, Movies and Music

Take home a Mac and right away you can start doing cool stuff with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand. They’re part of iLife. And they’re included with every new Mac.

Storage and Memory--There's Room to Grow

Personal space

Now you can get a 320 GB or 500 GB hard drive and pack in your photo libraries, films, music, files and more, more, more. You can also play and burn all the DVDs and CDs you want with the fast, slot-loading SuperDrive.

DIY Memory

Thanks to a removable bottom panel, now it’s easy to open Mac mini and add memory. Just a slight twist of the panel and you’re inside Mac mini. Simply pop your memory into the SO-DIMM slot then twist the panel back on. And you’re done.

The Mac mini is the most energy-efficient Mac desktop ever produced.

Environmentally Friendly Design

Apple approaches environmental responsibility through our products. That’s why a Mac is designed to be energy efficient, free of many toxins and highly recyclable.

Energy Efficiency

Because Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.

Fewer Toxic Substances

A Mac doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. Mac mini is free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)4 and brominated flame retardants (BFRs)

Recyclability

When a Mac reaches the end of its long life, the materials it’s made from — like aluminium — make it highly desirable to recyclers.

Plenty of Ports Make it Ready for Anything

Mac mini makes things happen. It can connect to any digital display right out of the box. In addition to HDMI, Mac mini comes with both Mini DisplayPort output and an HDMI-to-DVI adapter, so it’s ready to connect to the Apple LED Cinema Display or a third-party display you already have. You can even connect two displays to see more of your photos, films and files. And there’s a built-in SD card slot, which makes it easy to grab photos and videos from your digital still or video camera. Mac mini gives you ports galore: four USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 800 port, so you can plug in your keyboard, mouse, iPod, iPhone, iPad, digital camera, DV camcorder, external hard drive, printer and just about any other device you use.

I have always used macs and had my own since 2001.My first was a lovely indigo imac G3,then and emac and now this.I couldn't afford one new so bought a used one on Amazon and since I already have a BenQ 27 inch monitor and my own keyboard and mouse the mac mini seamed just right.I didn't want the new model either as it has mountain lion, my scanner and ilife version won't work as Apple dropped Rosetta support, besides this older model has a slot loading drive built in for which I use for region 1 DVDs.I know you can get a plug in super drive, but that defeats the point of having an all in one computer.Anyway this little machine runs beautifully and sits nicely in my hi-fi rack,I could do with more ram,but that's easily done and I am so glad I bought it.The only negative was the applications disc didn't work at first, but a quick search on the apple forum suggested I set my clock to 2010 instead of 2013 then it would install and it worked.

I love Mac's and have had many over the years. In fact I love Mac minis. So why one star?

Unless Apple improve the disc drive it is really prone to failure after a year or two and it is... internal, and almost impossible to change.

So just be aware that these beautiful packets of near perfection have an Achiles heal, the internal drive.

I've had two and both have refused to read discs after a relatively short while (when the warranty runs out) of very low use. So... fantastic, but....

Still wouldn't have a pc though.

First time Mac user. Bought this mainly to try some iOS programming.

Had the first crash only after a few hours' use when connecting to a Windows shared folder. Not that stable really compared to Windows 7.

The mic of Logitech Pro 9000 stopped working after the first reboot untill I learned to use cmd+option+p+r immediately after power on to clean up ... Didn't expect the first trick learned is to reset certain part of the system!

Now here's a bit about the purchasing experience.

Placed the order only a day before Amazon dropped the price even while the order was still being prepared. Not impressed and contacted the customer services to get a refund of the difference. One day later the price was dropped further for another 30 quid.

I would have been more relaxed since at least I paid about the same as what I would have to buy from Apple directly, if it were not for the fact that the iLife installed is still the old edition.

Well, I still thought that's OK. I could just go to Apple's website and apply for a discounted iLife 11.

It turned out not that easy. The serial number on this Mac was not recognized so now I have to fill out an online form, pay the extra 7 pounds and post the form with photocopy of my receipt to Apple to receive the discount.

So all in all, I effectively payed 25 quid (when counting in the cashback you would get from Apple) more to buy this from Amazon instead of directly from Apple, plus having to go through all the trouble to get the latest iLife.

Not necessarily Amazon's fault but next time I'll definitly buy from Apple directly even if it would cost a bit more.

Bought this for use as a media centre in Dec 2010. Still going strong and now running Lion OS. It's absolutely fantastic. I have been an Apple convert since early 2005 and cannot stand Windows or PC's anymore. Apple takes into consideration user compatibility, ease of use and eye catching design.

Anyone can just pick up a Mac and use it and this goes without saying for the Mac Mini. This is better than the newer model as it features a DVD-RW superdrive and the new one doesn't. The new one does have thunderbolt but not many thunderbolt devices are out yet. This also doesn't have the power brick transformer which is good. And it doesn't use too much power on standby. Brilliant.

If you purchase this you will need a monitor, keyboard and mouse!!!

Easy to set up and use, and has worked flawlessly in daily use ever since, as is to be expected from Apple. Can run two screens simultaneously, and the RAM is easily upgradeable (recommended).

Aesthetically, it is nice to have a proper piece of industrial design working silently on the desk, rather than a whirring biscuit tin taking up space, time, and reserves of one's patience.

This particular machine was promptly delivered, well packed and immaculate cosmetically, so thumbs up to the seller also.

A great machine, lower price than iMacs and MacBooks however this is still a brilliant piece of kit.

The full Mac experience can be had with the mini and I would recommend this to anyone who wants to either give Mac a go, or who has had Mac before and just wants a small machine rather than a larger piece of kit that is more expensive.

I used this throughout my degree for all manner of things, and it served me well. These also keep their price well should you ever come to upgrade and sell on.

    Thoroughly recommended.

Was extremly disapointed to find this does not have the latest and greatest OS and iLife software
Ships with OS 10.6.3 Instead of latest 10.6.5. At least this can be easily updated
iLife is version 2009. The latest (released Ocrober 2010) is 2011. The cost of this is £50 so not a heck of a saving !

Have emailed Amazon for clarification. Cant belive Amazon would supply such and out of date bit of kit

I am rating Amazon and the out of date item they sent. Not the mac mini

I have since sent off to Apple for the update to iLife for £6 as per the comment below
As yet not recieved but as this is over xmas not suprising

Amazon really do need to make clear what they are selling though

I bought the Mac Mini to help me with the magazine I publish every 3 months. It is an excellent machine and doing everything I expected of it. I have it running in tandem with a PC connected with a KVM Switch. Both systems working well.
