The screen and performance is fabulous, beating my previous i7 2.3 ghz 16GB MBP, and the weight and size is a huge bonus as I walk to work every day. The weight of this, or rather the lack of weight, is worth the upgrade alone.
The obvious irritation is the number of adapters I need to use the USB-3 ports, most annoying being getting my displays at work and home to work correctly. The adapter is expensive and still not allowing my screen at home to work. The new MBP just won't recognise it, even though I'm using a genuine Apple adapter. But I understand that ports change and improve and this is a necessary annoyance that I can accept in the name of progress
The first REAL annoyance is the Touch Bar. I originally thought this was such a great idea, but typing causes my little finger to constantly wake Siri, or turn on and off my music. Maybe I'll get used to it as the Touch Bar is a great device in theory.
Secondly, High Sierra has it's own fonts which are not stored in the same place as previous OSX versions, which now displays and uses fonts differently, ruining my letterheads and other business templates. Now my logo is displayed wrong and the heading bar and logo encroaches into the text, wiping out the beginning of the address. Be warned that Office templates won't look the same and be prepared to have to rework them, as even if you fix the problem by embedding fonts elsewhere, they will revert when OSX updates. The only option is to remake templates from scratch. Google this and you'll see what I mean.
The second annoyance is the huge trackpad that, similar to the touch bar, gets activated by my thumbs as I type. It is so huge that you cannot now rest your palms on the deck as you type because you'll activate all sorts of commands. It's another great idea that is flawed in practice.
Thirdly and most disappointing is the new keys. The old keyboard was lush and silent, has great feel and was refined. This keyboard is very clattery and although probably not noticeable in a busy Apple Store, in a silent room is just a constant loud rattle like a PC keyboard from the 1980s. It looks great, but it feels horrible with it's short action, and the noise of it is driving me mad. If Apple change the keyboard soon due to this disaster, I'll upgrade again immediately. This keyboard is horrible to the degree that if I had acknowledged the keyboard issue in practice before buying, I may have held off upgrading until an improved version came out. Just try this in a silent room in direct comparison to a pre-2015 MBP and you'll see what I mean. I totally hate it.
All in all, great, light and powerful, but a long way from perfect.
