I have used Mac Book Pro's for years in 13,15 and 17" guises ... and love them - but wanted something small but still effective to carry around with me.

This fits the bill perfectly - the Air is tiny and weighs next to nothing !! It is superbly crafted and feels, like most Apple products a class item. It is now less expensive and better specified with 128GB of fast storage. The start up time is akin to an Ipad and the processor speed brilliant given this is the smallest and cheapest model.

The screen is good but nowhere near as good as a MBP. It is, however, far better than any Netbook I have seen or used.

The keyboard is just like a MBP and, well, it is all Mac !! The internet is very speedy and RAM sufficient at 4GB for my limited needs. Battery life is supposed to be better on this model but is still not IMO as claimed ... but easily OK enough for most people - and far better than my old HP Netbook.

Be aware you can't upgrade the RAM after buying ... so if you want 8 you have to buy one spec'd up.

I have been really surprised by this machine and would thoroughly recommend looking them if thinking of buying !

My Macbook Air was an order fulfilled by Amazon. It was delivered within 24 hours of placing the order using their next day delivery service and in effect came triple boxed which offered excellent protection.
The laptop received was the 2014 version with a slightly faster processor than listed and came fully sealed. Keyboard wise, it is a US version meaning that in order to get the £ sign you have to hold down the shift key and press the hashtag key. In light of the saving over the Apple store price, this is all but a minor inconvenience. The charger and leads are the 3 pin UK variety.
Fit and finish wise this machine is excellent, with a responsive backlit keyboard and a screen colourful and distinct despite it lacking the retina display. Set up was simple and it was up and running in minutes although I wish that instructions were printed in a size that us mere mortals could actually read. I do find the touchpad a little..."different" so in the interim have used a wireless mouse in preference.
With exception to Ipads, my experience of computing has always been with Windows, so yes, I have a lot of learning to do but so far, I am impressed with the speed the Macbook Air provides, it's lack of noise in use and indeed the overall package. If you need a new laptop but not necessarily loads of memory, this could be a great long term prospect.
While looking around the facilities of this machine, I discovered that the firewall programme was turned off...apparently some Mac computers are shipped this way! Needless to say I activated it. May I urge any buyer to check this for additional peace of mind.
Nearly 10 weeks into ownership and this Apple still performs perfectly.

The computer is fine, it is perfectly compatible with UK, it has the three pin plug etc. however the part number is different. The description is M711B/A the reality is M711ZP/A. This is a Malaysian unit, they use the three pin plugs as we do in UK. The only difference I believe is the dollar sign instead of the pound sign.

There is nothing wrong with the computer at all, it's a great price, a saving of £150 over Apple. Just be aware of what you are buying.

I have a Macbook Pro and a Mac desktop (and an ipad! God, don't tell me I'm a fanboy!) I bought this Macbook Air in November 2013 as I tend to replace my laptop every three years and a rival retailer were offering Apple with three year warranties. It seemed therefore like a good time to do it. I thought I'd jot down some first impressions comparing the Air to the Pro. Firstly, you notice the weight difference. I would not like to lug around a Macbook Pro on a daily basis, but the Air would be a breeze to carry. Secondly, on the Pro, my watch strap used to scrape the aluminium keyboard when I typed, which could become seriously irritating, and doesn't happen on this smaller machine. I also seem to be able to type much faster on the Air, for some reason, and the keys have a lovely, tactile feel to them (as did the Pro). In terms of looks, the Macbook Air is the sexier laptop, I think, but it does feel less sturdy and robust.
The biggest downside is the display. The colours on the Air just aren't as deep and rich as I had on the Pro and hence the dropped star in my review (it was almost two). Okay, I recognise I have to sacrifice something to get this weight, but I wasn't expecting such a big drop in quality to be honest. I can live with it but if I was seriously into photography I'd have some real qualms about using this Macbook Air to work on pictures. Talking of which, the usual suite of iLife software came with my laptop, but I wont be bothering even firing up iPhoto unless I can work out how to disable the ridiculous face recognition part of the application that is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
