Product Description

How to sharpen a knife, serrated knife or scissors, without knowing how to sharpen a knife.

1

Whether you're slicing meat, dicing vegetables, or carving the Sunday Roast, a sharp blade makes cutting effortless. AnySharp Plus restores a super sharp cutting edge to blunt knife blades or scissors that have dulled with use.

Works with all your knives, even serrated blades
(Not suitable for extremely fine-toothed serrated knives).
Works with all your knives - even serrated blades

The unique, patented AnySharp uses tungsten carbide technology to extend the life of almost any knife. AnySharp Plus works on virtually any knife, including expensive hardened steel knives and even serrated blades(like bread knives and hunting knives), making it unlike any knife sharpener, steel or sharpening stone you've ever used.

Plus Scissors!

AnySharp Plus does everything the original AnySharp does, plus it has a second sharpener built in for sharpening scissors and shears. The scissor sharpener is designed for plain scissors, but please note it may not work withscissors that have bevelled blades.

AnySharp is safer by design
Attaches anywhere, safe to use single handed
Plastic top protects your knife
1) Patented PowerGrip - Safer for you

AnySharp's unique safety feature is its PowerGrip suction cup base, which attaches securely to any smooth surface or worktop without the need for any tools. In fact, it will attach to any smooth surface anywhere. You can even use it on a vertical surface like a tiled wall! Once it's attached you can sharpen any knife safely single handed - keeping your free hand out of harm's way!

2) Polymer Protector - Safer for your Knives

When your whole knife has been run through, your knife edge may touch as it exits the sharpening tools. The AnySharp Plus has a long-lasting polymer guiding top that is softer than metal, and therefore won't damage the metal edge, making it safe for your knives too.

3) Needs only light pressure. Less chance of accidents!

With a totally blunt knife, AnySharp will hone it to a perfect angle, and remove excess metal rapidly the first time you use it. Once sharp, better results are gained by using only light pressure, and only microscopic amounts of metal are shed.

No skill required. Anyone can get great results!

The perfect sharpening angle

The optimum angle to sharpen a good quality steel knife is 20 degrees. AnySharp Plus is pre-set at 20 degrees to give a perfect edge every time. Getting a consistent angle with a sharpening stone is a skilled job, but AnySharp allows anyone to get professional results without any training at all.

Once you have fixed the AnySharp Plus to a work surface, you can sharpen knives easily and safely using just one hand. All you need to do is just gently draw the blade through the tungsten carbide sharpening edges, 3 or 4 times to restore a super sharp cutting edge.

The second sharpener built-in is for scissors. It works with almost all scissors (that don't have bevelled blades), and is just as simple as the knife sharpener, with the same type of sharpening tool.

Do remember, very little pressure is needed with AnySharp and to wipe implements before use.

Store it easily and conveniently out of the way

Since it is so small and light, AnySharp Plus can be easily tidied away in a drawer, cupboard, or tool box when not needed. AnySharp Plus is small enough to store in your kitchen drawer. You could even PowerGrip it to your fridge or tiled kitchen wall, out of the way yet handy when you need it.

AnySharp

Ecological, money-saving

AnySharp Plus is a an eco-friendly product that makes your old, blunt knives and scissors perfectly usable again and extends their useful life. For many people, AnySharp Plus can pay for itself in just days.

Directions

The handle on the top of the unit should be up. If it is down, pull it up. It is important to note that the pointed nose of the AnySharp should be facing towards you when using it. Place on the surface, and move the handle down. The suction PowerGrip will hold the AnySharp Plus firmly in place. Just put your knife into the sharpening jaw, apply a light pressure, and pull the knife slowly towards you.
Be sure to apply only light pressure and gentle strokes as you draw your knife through your AnySharp. You are using the correct pressure if the action is smooth, and you get tiny metal filings coming off the knife. If you get no filings at all, or the motion is jerky or sticky, adjust the pressure to suit. The knife edge always faces away from you, and your hands are never near the cutting edge at any time. Full instructions are included with the unit.

This Anysharp blade sharpener works on both knives and scissors. There are two separate bits to do the two different products. It has a suction pad on the bottom so you can stick it to the kitchen surface - this is actually very good and it really sturdy so you don't need to worry about it slipping.

I found that the instructions weren't very good - probably most people don't need instructions but I like assurances that I am doing it right and felt they were lacking slightly. I didn't even realise there was a scissor sharpener until I read it about it on Amazon.

My main problem with this sharpener is that it takes so much metal off your knives! You can see metal filings falling off. If you used this a couple of times a month you wouldn't even have a knife left to sharpen after a year or so. Not only did it look like it was taking way too much metal off the knives, the filings weren't easy to clear up. I didn't want to wipe them in case they scratched the kitchen surface and I equally didn't want to hoover them. I also didn't think that my knives felt that much sharper after use.

After seeing what it did to the first few knives I tried I haven't wanted to use it again. I would stay stick to a more traditional sharpener as I wouldn't trust this product near nice, expensive kitchen knives.

I've used a very similar hand held device for previously sharpening my knifes and found it very good but too much of a chore (and a danger!) to dig it out from the back of the kitchen drawer every time, so this unit with its strong sucker base, is perfect for leaving attached to the work surface and therefore means it's more likely to get used.

It works very well, is easy to use and puts a good edge on any blade - our kitchen knives were in a bit of a sorry state before this arrived but every time I use them now I give them a couple of draws through this device and the knife is back up to razor sharpness. On a new knife this transformation is pretty much instantaneous but if you have older, less well cared for knifes, you may not see the full benefit until you have had several sharpening sessions to get past all the knicks and dings you will inevitably have in older blades.

Does seem to remove a fair amount of material but you're not going to turn your carving knife to a penknife in a matter of months unless you are some sort of crazed knife sharpener. Not too keen on the colour scheme - white may have been better for kitchens and they could have hidden the screw heads on the thing, so that is where my reduction in score comes from, but from a functionality point of view I would give it 5/5.

I say its a bit steep in the sense that whilst it gives a good edge to your knives it does this by filing off quite a bit each time you sharpen and if you have a high quality knife, it won't last very long.

On the average knife though, it does the job. The suction pad with lever has a strong grip so there is no danger of any slippage. A note on knives such as Global and Sabatier: Go for a proper sharpening steel as the AnySharp makes the knife edge very abrasive and uneven, it would be better to maintain the edge with a steel, especially as you can purchase one for the same amount as this.

The scissor sharpener works well with non-serrated edged types, not sure what the carbon fibre build does overall though.

I was sceptical, but a couple of swipes made some knives sharp that defeated other simple sharpeners. It took a while, but I eventually entrusted my best knives to it as well, and they are now always as sharp as when I first got them, and my wetstone is retired.

This is certainly a good looking piece of kitchen equipment. It won't (hopefully) turn yellow like a lot of white plastic implements (my bread maker and food processer come to mind) nor should it show up nasty greasy fingerprints like chrome or aluminium finished kit. Having said that, it will look a bit out of place for that very reason. No mind.

The sharpener fixes to the work surface by means of a large suction cup on the underside which is activated by a lever on the top side. The cup is very powerful and worked well on my oak kitchen worktop which isn't perfectly smooth. In fact it was almost impossible to remove until deactivating the sucker lever thingymajig.

Knives are sharpened by drawing them gently back through the sharpening "Vee" in the top of the implement. Be careful not to apply too much pressure and ensure that you're drawing the knife in the correct direction. There is a second sharpener in the side for scissors.

Does it work? Yes! After many years of using a progressively less effective sharpening steel my knives have become harder and harder to get a good edge on. A couple of strokes through this little doohickey and they (mostly) returned to their former glory. In a few minutes I had transformed my soft steel carver and several hard steel Sabatier-clones of various sizes. I won't claim that I could shave with any of them but they are certainly good enough for all normal carving and chopping purposes.

I said "mostly" because my favourite short vegetable knife has suffered many years of abuse and has become very difficult to sharpen at all, with the consequence that it has been superceded by a newer knife. Even this sharpener was unable to give it a really good, keen edge.
