It has Antonio's character running through every page, and it is full of both humour and sadness.
I found it to be a 'comforting' read, that is to say that although I was eager to turn each page I also wanted to take my time and savour the story.
He has had a fascinating life and he really goes in to a surprising amount of detail when describing some of his lifes more tragic events, I found these parts particularly moving.
A nice touch is that the book has the ocassional recipe, these are the signature dishes that Antonio has used throughout his career and they remain the cornerstones of his technique to this day.
Despite these recipes the book remains very much a memoir, they are simply a wonderful and quite original little addition.
The book has a fair amount of colour photographs showing all stages of the writers life, some of them are absolutely superb and it is interesting to see just how long it is that Antonio has had that famous white hair!!
The book itself is the standard hardback size, nicely bound and with 304 pages.
There is also a nicely written and affectionate introduction from Raymond Blanc.
Overall I was really pleased with this read, I already liked Antonio Carluccio from what I had seen of him on my televsion screen but now that I know the journey he has taken I have a genuine respect for this fascinating and talented man.
