This book is a joy to read.

It has Antonio's character running through every page, and it is full of both humour and sadness.

I found it to be a 'comforting' read, that is to say that although I was eager to turn each page I also wanted to take my time and savour the story.

He has had a fascinating life and he really goes in to a surprising amount of detail when describing some of his lifes more tragic events, I found these parts particularly moving.

A nice touch is that the book has the ocassional recipe, these are the signature dishes that Antonio has used throughout his career and they remain the cornerstones of his technique to this day.

Despite these recipes the book remains very much a memoir, they are simply a wonderful and quite original little addition.

The book has a fair amount of colour photographs showing all stages of the writers life, some of them are absolutely superb and it is interesting to see just how long it is that Antonio has had that famous white hair!!

The book itself is the standard hardback size, nicely bound and with 304 pages.

There is also a nicely written and affectionate introduction from Raymond Blanc.

Overall I was really pleased with this read, I already liked Antonio Carluccio from what I had seen of him on my televsion screen but now that I know the journey he has taken I have a genuine respect for this fascinating and talented man.

After noticing this book in one of the Carluccios Restaurants, I decided to get it through some of Amazons retailers "Welly Bob Books" got it for an unbelievable reasonable price ( much better then in shop) and have to say it is a wonderful read. After only 2 days I'm already half through it. If you like "the MAN ANTONIO CARLUCCIO" and his cooking program's and his food, then it is a must to read his autobiography!! It's an honest Life story with all the ups and downs, it made me like this man even more!! I would Highly recommend this book, specially as a little surprise Christmas Tree Present!!!

I have admire Antonio Carluccio for some time. He is an interesting person and his enthusiasm for fungi and food, as well as his native Italy is endearing. I expected this book to be a gentle, interesting account of a happy and successful life. It was not quite like that. Although a successful man in business, there has been a lot of sadness and trauma. The book was sad and almost depressing in places. It was well written and must have been difficult to reveal all this sadness to the world. Perhaps it has helped him. I enjoyed the book but was almost pleased to finish it as it was harrowing in places. Buy and enjoy it but don't expect a gently happy sotry.

I have always admired Antonio, and watched his tv programmes avidly. Being a keen cook myself and I can relate to his delight in good food and flavours. Also having honeymooned in Italy 21 years ago and celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Amalfi, his description of his beautiful country brought back happy memories and a lust to go again. A very readable and personal account of his life so far. Definitely recommend to cooks and travellers alike.

This was a refreshing autobiography as it was actually about Antonio and his life rather than looking at his life purely through his food and food experiences. The recipe at the end of the chapter was a good choice too

We used to know Antonio very well through his restaurant in Neal Street and he was a great character. It is a brave person who can reveal himself in so intimate a fashion and at no time when we knew him did he reveal this sad side of himself. Much enjoyed.
