Review

Reviews of the previous edition:

'Undoubtedly, Anti-Discriminatory Practice remains an important text for us all.' - British Journal of Social Work

'Classic text, useful on all social work modules.' - Robert Goemans, Faculty of Health Life & Social Sciences, University of Lincoln, UK

I used a copy of this when doing my HNC and when I started Uni it was nearly impossible to get hold of one of the library copies. It is very clearly written and very easy to follow which is probably why it is so popular- really pleased I bought it when I did as it has been invaluable for my studies. Arrived earlier than expected and would happily recommend product

Thomson concedes this is an introductory text to the subject of ADP and AOP. A must read for anyone who supports people! Thomson pitches concepts at a level that is accessible to all. This book is like Ronseal, does exactly what it says on the tin!

Excellent guidance for Social Work students and NQSW's and even as a reminder for long-in-the-tooth SW's and people who engage with people for work or voluntary. A good read.

A very useful and easy read of classic text particularly re PCS model. However, I find the absence of any critique of some of the themes eg. social model of disability (as critiqued by Shakespeare)means it fails to give a balanced view. Also it also doesn't seem to recognise that positive cultural change in recent decades to promote/accept difference within society has taken place (whilst ssome oppression still exists) and hence social divisions are probably not as prevailent as they once were. Also it would be helpful to have some discussion of the conflict that exists in working with service users who will represent the values/views of traditional mainstream society (eg. defined gender roles) and so are at times discriminatory. I look forward to the next revise edition.
