This fine compilation, and perhaps the classic "Live At The Regal" album, is really all you need to have a complete overview of the important moments of Riley B. King's career.
The compilers lean heavily towards King's 60s and 70s material, with only a few later songs, but that's okay since the 50s, 60s and early 70s was when B.B. King did his best work. And virtually all of his best 60s and 70s songs are here - the crossover hit "The Thrill Is Gone", "Sneakin' Around" "Help The Poor", and King's versions of Robert Nighthawk's "Sweet Little Angel" and Memphis Slim's "Nobody Loves Me (Every Day I Have The Blues").
Some may find that his earlier Flair sides should have been here, too, but those who want to can easily get those on the excellent two-LPs-on-one-CD album "Singin' The Blues / The Blues", and his early 50s singles (which were more consistent than varied) can also be found on specific compilations.
This CD is highly recommended, though, both as a starting point and for those who just want one B.B. King album in their collection.

(This is a later insertion after I've actually played some of this compilation.) The reviews quoted at the bottom of this page from Amazon.com DO NOT REFER TO THIS COMPILATION and they are the reason I bought it in the first place. This is a vastly inferior compilation and nothing at all like the one those reviews discuss. Avpid at all costs. My original, slightly revised, review begins below.

If you want a good definitive compilation of BB King's work, look elsewhere. If you want a cheap compilation there are still better available for around the same price.

Don't be fooled by the fact that there are 5 discs in the box. The first four average a miserable 40 minutes each and the fifth (the live set) is only just over an hour.

If you're looking for a decent booklet which tells you about the man and his music, forget it. Other than a track listing which includes composer credits (where you can find the producer claiming a co-writing credit for something he never did) there's nothing at all.

I only bought this because I wanted a reasonably comprehensive collection of BB's stuff to partly replace the two Ace box sets which went 'missing' when I moved a couple of years ago. Now I wish I'd simply coughed up the money Ace's King of the Blues.

Incidentally this is on the Italian Deja Vu label which I haven't seen for years and which issued barely legal Blues compilations back in the 90's. Had I realised that before ordering I wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole. What you have is almost all BB's earlier and, presumably, out of copyright material with an extra CD of live material that came from god knows where. The opening 10 minute track doesn't even feature BB. I'm not allowed to use language here which could begin to express my disgust.

The music, what there is of it, is worth five stars, the packing zero. Look elsewhere and find something that does justice to BB King. This doesn't.
