Product Description

Product Description

Antennas To Hell is a 3-disc collection charting the best musical moments in the history of heavy metal heavyweights Slipknot. The first disc is the greatest hits portion, with two live tracks from the "Disasterpieces" performance. The second disc is a live performance of the band at Download Festival 2009, and the third a DVD of all their music videos including 10 bonus videos directed by Shawn “Clown” Crahan.

BBC Review

With its unfortunate associations with petrol station forecourts and supermarket checkouts, the very idea of a greatest hits compilation would seem anathema to US extreme metallers Slipknot.

Since the release of their platinum-selling eponymous debut album back in 1999, they’ve remained at the top of their game. Against a backdrop of rapidly shifting musical fashions, they’re still the soundtrack for the Y2K generation and have clung to the cutting edge with tenacity.

Although perhaps overdue a new studio album, they’re not even on one of their regular hiatuses right now. Antennas to Hell, therefore, serves mainly as a sharp, swift boot to the face of any youthful pretenders eyeing the Iowa outfit’s lofty throne.

Available as a 19-track single CD, double-disc package featuring the band’s 2009 Download festival headline set, and as an elaborate triple-disc affair which adds a DVD of promo videos and specially shot movie vignettes, this is about as good as ‘best of’ collections get.

Offering five tracks from the aforementioned debut, four (if you include a remix) from 2001’s Iowa, four each from 2004’s Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, plus a couple of live tracks, it’s an even cross section of Slipknot’s remarkably consistent career.

Played from beginning to end, what’s remarkable is just how little ground Slipknot have given over the years. There’s still more death metal in their sound today than there ever was nu-metal mash-up à la Korn or Limp Bizkit. And against those other veterans of the 90s who bent metal into brave new post-millennial shapes – Machine Head, Marilyn Manson, Fear Factory, Rammstein – Slipknot still stand tall.

Strip away the masks, the samples and the arena-busting stage shows and Slipknot are, at heart, a band every bit as authentic as Slayer or Metallica, and they’ve got the songs to match. If all they had were hype and gimmicks, they’d be nothing and nowhere.

As it is, Antennas to Hell reminds us just how a bunch of misfits from Des Moines blew the metal scene apart and pieced it back together with psychotic brilliance.

Ok, so I bought this item on the 24th July, recieved it today and it is AMAZING. There is a fantastic CD that includes what are definately (in my opinion) their greatest hits! If that one CD wasn't enough, a second CD contaning the live audio is even better. They had a great line-up for this show and captured it really well for this album. Last, but certainly not least, we have the DVD. This consists of all of the band's music videos (including a new one for scissors) and 10 Broadcasts to Hell. These broadcasts include footage of all the members and have great track remixes/mash-ups in the background. Definately one worth buying!

Stay sic, and R.I.P Paul Gray

This is a nice way for the band to show fans how much great material they have made over the years and a nice way to remember their late bassist.

Yes, greatest hits compilations are never revolutionary - but the live stuff and dvd really add to this collection. As said in some reviews, make sure you are getting the three disc version!

Loved the tracks but CD was a little cracked and the packaging was torn. Shame as it was a present, luckily it was for my son and he was just delighted for a slipknot CD. I may have nicked it for my car though haha

An excellent compilation. It's missing some of my personal favourites but then again which "best of"-compilation doesn't. The only complain is that they should have included all songs as studio versions. Especially The Heretic Anthem should have been the studio version. But I don't care the matter that much because I also have the "Iowa" album (strongly recommend buying it). This is well worth buying to get an introduction to the band. Most of their best or at least most "hit material" songs are included and the album is fun to listen to.

Slipknot were recommended to me by a friend and I was a little reluctant at first to listen to them but these cds and dvd changed my mind! I love every track especially the ones towards the end of cd1 like Snuff and Psychosocial, Sulfur and The Heretic Anthem. I don't know how I missed these tracks the first time around.
Great metal! The live stuff is good quality and the videos are good fun.

And the start of a new one for the now 8 man (R.I.P Paul Gray) wrecking crew that is Slipknot who have proved over the last decade and a bit that they level arenas and festivals world over and long may they continue to do so. Here we have their best of album with 19 greatest hits, the immense Download show from 2009 and the third disc which has all the videos on it both the sound/vision quality are awesome and if like me you love your metal loud and love Slipknot then this is a must and a legacy to Paul Gray.
I can't wait for a new album hopefully it won't be long. This album comes in three different formats a single, double and a double with DVD it's worth paying extra for the 2 CD and DVD version of this as i did.
