I enjoyed reading ANOMALY and HIDDEN VARIABLES at the time but the rewrite, ANOTHER PATH, brought back to me just how thought-provoking the book is. Yes, it's a YA Fantasy in that the main characters are making school/career decisions but the book is so much more.
The science behind the ideas doesn't kick in until Part 2 of the book (Anomaly) but its philosophical approach does nothing to undermine the scientific reasoning behind Lynagh's ideas. It asks the right questions and explains so much in the process. It almost justifies the idea of an afterlife - godless and yet so godful in its moralisation. It's a must-read for so many crossover genres.
Sophia is a loveable character, even as she ages between books and the relationship between Kyle and Alice is enviable. It's a simple read too, despite the science conversations. I love how this book goes even further into the science by including the notes from Sophia's journal - including diagrams. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
