Annabelle doesn't realise at first that her godmother has her own ideas of precisely who would make her a suitable husband and it isn't someone with a fortune. In the meantime Annabelle is starting to wonder why Lord Sylvester Varleigh keeps turning up just when she needs rescuing from awkward situations.
I enjoyed this entertaining and light hearted Regency romance. There are plenty of less than perfect characters and some downright evil ones too. Annabelle has a mind of her own and Lady Emmeline is one of those indomitable middle aged lady whom this author portrays so well. Lady Jane, the villainess of the piece, is also well done.
If you want a light read which will make you smile then try this book - it will keep you occupied for an evening and is excellent accompanied by a glass of wine and some chocolate.

Romance, crime and happy ending. An easy read which is to be recommended. Another superb piece of fiction from Mrs Beaton.Published 24 months ago by Jc
A good entertaining read with interesting characters and plots. Shame about the typographical mistakes eg carnage instead of carriage. They were quite obvious.Published on 13 July 2014 by Dawn Talbot
Usual high standard of MC Beaton's books. Good characterisation and descriptions. A book to read in big chunks.Published on 7 July 2014 by S. SINCLAIR
