My new "go to" wireless charger.
    5 out of 5 stars
My new "go to" wireless charger.
This is my 3rd wireless charging pad, the others being an OEM Samsung model and an aftermarket JETech. Whilst both of these previous chargers work well, it can sometimes be a little difficult to find the exact positioning of the phone due to my dual layer Spigen tough case. No so with the Anker charger which invariably starts charging immediately, even when the phone is not sitting exactly centred on the charger. This to me is a huge plus point. The first thing that strikes you when unpacking the product is how thin it is, easily half the thickness of the OEM Samsung charger (see photos). It's really not much bigger than a drinks coaster. It's supplied just with a cable, no plug but really not an issue as who doesn't have a heap of them lying around anyway. The only other items in the minimalist packaging is the standard Anker guarantee and a small instruction booklet. In use, the unit initially lights up with blue LEDs around the edge to let you know it's charging but these fade after a few seconds leaving you content that it's doing it's job and won't disturb you all night with glowing light (unlike the JETech model!). Unless you have the separately available fast charging wall unit, this will not win any races in getting your battery to 100% but, like me, I assume that vast majority of users will have this sitting next to their bed so it's never going to be a problem. Lastly, built quality is up to Anker's usual standard with a good solid feel and firm rubber on both top and bottom to hold everything in place. This unit has now unquestionably replaced my Samsung pad as my "go to" charger. I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest.

I buy a lot of Anker products, which are typically well made, highly functional and great value for money. This charging pad is is another example of how Anker gets it right. I recently bought an iPhone 8 Plus and really liked the idea of inductive charging, if only to avoid the nightly ritual of 'pin the lightning cable on the iPhone' in the dark (without waking up my wife)! As I know and trust the Anker brand, I decided to order their charging pad, which at £18.99 wasn't the cheapest option, but neither was it the most expensive.

Unboxed, the pad is quite small - about 8cm across and about 6mm deep - with rubber pads on the bottom to keep it firmly planted in your chosen charging location (in my case, next to my bed) and a lightly textured rubberised top surface to help keep your phone in place. You need to connect the pad to a charger (like other Qi charging pads, it doesn't connect straight to the power supply and it isn't supplied with a charger). However, the pad is supplied with a USB to micro USB cable to connect the pad to the charger of your choice, but it is a pretty short cable - a lot less than 1m. For me it's not a problem as I have it connected to an Anker 25W, 5 port charger that's next to my bed; but bear in mind you might need to buy a longer cable if there's a longer run from your plug to the place you're intending to place your charging pad.

Once connected, that's pretty much it. To use the charging pad, just place your phone on it; you don't have to be incredibly precise with your placement, but you do need to align the pad with the coil in the phone, so you can't just slap it on any how and expect the phone to charge. There's a ring of blue LEDs in the side of the charging pad and with your phone correctly positioned on the pad, the LEDs will gently pulse 4 times (over about 6 seconds) as a visual confirmation and charging will begin. This works through the case (I have a Spigen Ultra Hybrid) and to my surprise it also works despite the fact I stuck a metal phone finger ring holder at the bottom of my case, which means the bottom of the phone is raised a couple of mm above the charging mat. I haven't specifically timed how long it takes to fully charge my iPhone (as I charge on the pad overnight), but I have woken up to discover I hadn't charged my phone and put it on the pad for an hour and a quarter before leaving for work, at which point it was 96% charged. So pretty quick.

Overall, a typical Anker product: well made, competitively priced and it just works.

I just splashed out on this after using a previous Anker model (bought over 2 years ago) for use with an iPhone 8. I am very pleased with how much this is improved:

      1) Compared to my older one this is a nice large surface area and much thinner, i.e. so your phone sits closer to the table/desk surface. This means a) you don't have to carefully position it - just drop it on - and b) it doesn't feel precariously balanced like it might fall off
      2) The use of lights is much better designed. They flash to indicate when the phone has been dropped on and charging is engaged but then they turn OFF. I think this is a perfect use of lights on these things. In contrast my previous Qi pad always had a light glowing - red when not charging, blue when charging, which was a bit irritating e.g. for a bedside table. Don't be put off by the picture which might give the impression the lights are on 100% of the time; to reiterate - they only flash when you initially drop your phone on, to feedback whether the charge has successfully engaged.
      3) Allows faster wireless charging (for iPhones you need iOS 11.2+). This is in our living room and often a phone is only dropped on it for 15 minutes. So in the long run, the faster charging does make a significant difference to the usefulness of this thing (the original Qi standard really is slow compared to what we are used to now).
      4) A minor thing but my previous Qi chargers (including the older Anker one) all buzzed and hummed very quietly when not in use. It was not really a bother but by contrast This thing is silent, which is a reassuring indication of how this technology is maturing.

Overall pleasantly surprised to see how these chargers have refined. This is still very affordable compared to first party offerings and I don't see what you are losing out on.

Great charging pad, works perfectly with the iPhone X in any orientation so just place the iPhone on the pad and it starts charging. Nice and slim with ‘sleep-friendly’ Blue LEDs that tell you the phone is charging correctly then go out after 30secs so they don’t keep you awake.

Only criticism would be the cable supplied, Anker make some of the very best cables I’ve ever used but the cable supplied with this pad is horrible and too short to even reach from a floor mounted power outlet to my desk or bedside table, it would have been better not to supply a cable at all rather than supply one that’s frustratingly short.

Received charger yesterday and when I took it out of the box I was pleasantly surprised at how compact the charging plate is.

It was presented in a nice square blue box which contained a USB power cable and the pad itself which is about 8cm square. No power adaptor was provided but I have several anyway, I used a 2.1A plug to power the pad.

I have my Samsung S8+ in a Tech21 Evo Wallet at all times as I cannot be trusted to not drop it.

When I placed my Samsung S8+ in its case on the charging plate I made sure it was aligned with the pad as I have heard this could lead to overheating. My phone beeps to say is charging and the pad pulses a blue light three times to indicate charging has began.

I got paged in the middle of the night and was able to grab phone without pulling the bedside light off the bedside table, did not disturb Mrs P which makes this device a godsend.

I can't comment as to the charging speed just yet but when I tested it early in the evening it seemed to be slightly slower than the wired charger, this does not concern me as I will only use it overnight anyway.

I charged my Samsung S8+ overnight with no issues and it did not feel very warm but as I mentioned before it was still in the case.

      Perfect little device.

Bought from Anker AU Direct. Bought one on a lightning deal at half the listed price. Liked how it worked, so during the next lightning deal, I bought 2 together. Quick, hassle free delivery.
I keep one at my office desk and the other 2 are for home use. The packaging is simple but the charger has a distinctive feel of quality. They charge up my Galaxy S8 pretty fast. The indicator lights come on blinking a couple of times when you place the phone on top of the charger and then go out, so they are excellent for the bedside. When it's been charging for a while, there's a slight increase in the temperature of both the charger and the phone but with inductive charging, this is to be expected. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Altamente recomendable
