Onwed for 11 months. Connected to a USB 3.0 PCI card and never really performed particularly well in terms of speed. Just disconnected it as it's become too hot to hold by the power input and smells of melting plastic. One for the bin as I wouldn't trust another one. Shame really as Anker products are usually ok.
Time for an update. Following the posting of my review Anker contacted me to offer a replacement. This was a pleasant surprise, particularly as the hub was 11 months old. A replacement hub was dispatched quickly but never made it to the Amazon pick-up location. A further email to Anker had a replacement delivered to my door within 48 hours. The replacement hub is working fine so I've changed my original rating. Anker is clearly a company that cares about their customers and their handling of this issue has been faultless. I've bought quite a few Anker products in recent times and this is the only one I've had an issue with. Based on their superb aftersales support I will continue to buy their products. A big thank you to Anker.

It looks like reviews are consolidated on here for various hubs as all of the answers relating to if this 'hub requires an external PSU' say that it doesn't, and unfortunately that is incorrect for this particular model. This hub does not power up at all unless the power brick (and it is a brick!) is connected. I contacted Anker just to confirm and they replied saying that it requires the PSU to work and is written in the description as '12V / 5A AC power adapter ensures each port is fully operational at all times.'. I find that description a lacking in clarity though - 'This hub requires the AC adapter to be connected at all times' would have been much clearer. Unfortunately, it means that this hub will not very useful to laptop users on the move unless they have a mains outlet nearby! I won't be buying a second one for my laptop bag.
As a USB 3 hub it works really well and I've had no problems with any of the devices I've connected to it. Windows 10 recognised it straight away and installed it's built-in drivers.
It's a fairly small hub considering it has a total of 10 ports (7 for the USB hub and 3 dedicated to charging only). The PSU is massive and nearly as big as the hub itself. The cable is pretty long though and has a standard figure of 8 power connector on it.
My only other criticism is that because the ports are on the top of the device it looks quite untidy if you have lots of USB cables plugged in (as I do). USB memory sticks and other dongles look OK though. It's fulfilled my requirements so it's not a problem but perhaps not the best choice for people who desire cable management due to the ports being on top and the requirement for the external PSU.
Pros:
- Anker product so well made and they do have good support
- 7x USB 3.0 ports for devices
- 3x dedicated USB charging only ports
- LEDs for each data port when a device is connected
- Reasonably small footprint for the hub considering it has 10 ports
Cons:
- It requires the external PSU to work at all. This means you cannot use it at all without the AC adapter.
- Cable management is a little tricky due to the ports being on top
- The PSU is massive
