The above was my original review when I gave it 1 star. After posting it, they were all over it, with Anker contacting me, asking me for the serial number, and then they just sent me a new one. Very good customer service. It seems port failure was a common issue as they said they had a new model which solved the problems and sent me that. It looks exactly the same, save the serial number is printed on it rather than being on a sticker. This one currently has all of its ports working. If that remains it is a 5 star product. The customer service is superb. My advice is hoe you get the new more reliable version with the printed serial rather than the prone to failure old model.
First time I powered it on with nothing plugged in there was a loud crack and a bright flash lit up the inside of the case. Subsequently no output.
I suggest standing well clear of this unit when you power it on it's dangerous!
Anker went way beyond anything that you could reasonably expect from a company for a faulty product. They have supplied me with the upgraded replacement and it worked just as you expect - really boring. I plugged it in (nothing went bang or flash), it charges my devices (none have burst into flames or created a black hole vortex that has caused the end of the world as we know it). It just works. No fuss, it just charges devices. Just like it should. Power in, power out....
Only thing that I have noticed is that the ports are no longer labelled, so I'm assuming that they are now all the same.
I cannot stress how helpful these folks were, at one point I had two separate customer services reps trying to fix my problem at the same time.
I used it with two Android Phones and after one week it started overheating and stopped charging at all!
I must say that I was expecting more from it as it definitely seemed very well built. And it looked good too.
I was going to reorder (as Amazon wouldn't replace, only refund it) but then I've heard that it did the same thing to someone else so gave up.
I have received a replacement charger from Anker directly and have been using it for over a week now.
We use it with two phones and one tablet and I must say it: so far so good! No noise and doesn't get hot at all.
I am really happy with the product and great customer service too!
Very simple to set up, plug the figure 8 plug into the wall charger, then the plug to the mains and done, quick and simple. Each USB slot has an allocated label, with differing Amps, iPad (2 x 2.1A), iPhone (1A), Samsung Tab (1.3A), and Android devices (1A)
It's very straight forward, but you must be sure, if you are using an Ipad or Samsung Tablet, to use the correct slots, otherwise the charge times will be very slow. Also please remember that you cannot exceed the maximum amount of Amps that the wall charger can output, in this product, it is 5A. That's enough to charge everything I needed. Though, if you have more than 1 Ipad and a couple phones, you might find its a struggle to charge anything else, everything will charge at a slower rate. This didn't bother me as I only have 1 Ipad in the household.
I began gathering all my electronics together, Ipad 2 / Nexus 4 / Nexus 5 / Wireless Speaker and Ipod.
Drained all the batteries till it required charge, then plugged them all in at once. I monitored the charging of all devices, and indeed they were all charging, I was sceptical of the actual charging rates as I have used different wall chargers before and they took almost twice as long to charge the devices, compared to charging each device on its own plug.
I was definitely impressed to see the charge rates of each of my devices charge in a similar time frame to individual plugs, +-20 minutes or so. Great! Now I only need to use 1 mains plug for a possible 5 devices! Having limited amount of plugs, even with a 10 plug tower, saving 4 other plugs is great benefit.Read more ›
