It doesn't come with a charger and I had to use a different charger (to my smartphone's) to charge the Power Bank. When starting to charge the Power Bank, the 4 LED power reserve indicator lights will flash cyclically through for a few moments but should stop with only the current charge level LED indicator light continuously flashing. The LED indicator lights will turn solid when the corresponding charge level is reached. If all four LED lights flash continuously then that means that it is incompatible with your charger and that you should try another charger.
Good for someone who goes places.
Specially if you go on trips where you cannot access electricity or car charging readily, this is for you..
But if you goto a workplace where there is a charger, and stay at home most of the day, where charging is not an issue, then this is of limited use.
Capacity- Very acceptable. Can use to recharge a normal phone around 4 times.
Charging indicator is present.
Price- anything below £20 would be a good price for this..
I was recommended the Anker Astro E4 by a friend who already has one and does a lot of travelling.
As you will know, most smart phones and tablets are very power hungry when used for long periods of time, i have a Samsung Galaxy Note II and a samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, both are great pieces of kit, but do drain the batteries when used extensively, sometimes within 4-6 hours.
I used to carry extra spare batteries for my Note II when out travelling as i could be away from a power source for 36 to 48 hours, but this was sometimes a pain having to take the back off the phone and change the battery then having to remember which ones you had already used, not something you can do if you have a iphone anyway.
I have been testing the E4 now for 4 days by just charging my Note II with the E4 and not using any other power source and the results have been positive, on a normal day my phone will last from approx 7-10 hours of normal use before i would have to recharge, normally one and a half charges would be sufficient for my working day, i have now gone 4 days by just charging from the E4 and the power pack still has 2 led lights lit, so i have used approx 50% of the power, so would say i still have about 3 to 4 days power remaining, when using with my Galaxy Tab 2 this power pack will charge it from 0-100% twice, maybe a little less on a ipad as they have slightly bigger batteries, but i don't have a ipad to test this with.Read more ›
First impressions count, and the packaging was certainly worthy of anything sold in an Apple store, the whole package looked and felt quality. The unit itself came fully charged and with a set of connectors that will charge virtually any portable device. Also provided is a drawstring carrying pouch and a set of clear instructions.
My phone was displaying 17% battery when I did the first charge using the E4. Exactly 30 minutes later the battery level was at 47%, so the phone was being charged at a rate of 1%/ minute. The unit has twin charging ports allowing two devices to be recharged at once.
My only 'concern' was the weight of the E4 - it comes in at 309g, which isn't and doesn't seem a lot, but is nearly twice the weight of my Samsung S4 at 166g, so side by side it feels quite heavy.
So, to conclude. A mini powerhouse of a charger. Brilliant for holidays, festivals, travelling and any other situation where a recharge is needed but isn't available.
The battery developed a physical fault after 4-5 months (one of the USB ports came loose and got pushed into the casing). But Anker Direct replaced it without any questions or hesitations. Aside from demonstrating fantastic customer support, this level of response and concern from them also suggests that such failures are extremely rare on these devices.
As portable chargers, these are great. Will fully charge an Ipad Air 2 from flat, and the charge rate is more than high enough. I’ve had the kids iPod touch 5’s plugged into it simultaneously on long car journeys. Can’t live without it!
