About the Author
Elena Passarello is an actor, writer and recipient of a 2015 Whiting Fellowship in non-fiction. Her first collection of essays, Let Me Clear My Throat, won the gold medal for nonfiction at the 2013 Independent Publisher Awards. Her essays on performance, pop culture and the natural world have appeared in Oxford American, Slate, Creative Nonfiction and the Iowa Review. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon.

I would easily review this work as a five star reading, but there was one minor formatting issue that was a problem with the Kindle version of the book. In the essay Jeoffry, there is some formatting of alternate readings that requires the viewing of opposing pages (left and right), that is invisible to the Kindle reader. I was not aware of it until I conversed with one of my classmates that had a hardcopy version of the book who commented to me on the alternate reading style. I was oblivious to it, since I didn’t see it. Obviously, this is not the fault of the author, so I can’t penalize her for the publishing issue.
Finally, I would not only recommend this book to those who have a love of animals, but especially to those who place their animals into important roles in their lives. The book also speaks to a unique writing style, backed by excellent research. I thought it was well worth the investment.
