Product description

Review

A rich , informative and truly wonderful cabinet of curiosities is beautifully displayed in this imaginative and covetous book. -- Chris Packham Animalium (Welcome to the Museum) grants admittance to your very own private, virtual museum. 'Curator' Jenny Broom (who studied fine art at the Slade), has created a truly unique concept, whereby you can pore over each 'room' and 'exhibit' at your leisure. With fascinating facts and beautiful illustrations by Katie Scott, Animalium is a must for any child with a love for the animal kingdom. Mumsnet.com A glorious book featuring page after page of extraordinary creatures. Fish, invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals are exquisitely drawn complete with Latin names and fascinating facts. This is a book Charles Darwin would have treasured. -- Harriet Green The Guardian The most beautiful book of the year is Animalium (Big Picture Press, GBP20), a big illustrated museum of creatures "curated" by Katie Scott and Jennie Broom. One for browsing and wondering at. -- Melanie McDonagh The Evening Standard "Stunning illustrations of 160 animals in a virtual museum. Kids over five will love this, as will the grown-ups!" Prima magazine

Sent this to my son in Australia for his birthday this March, as it's format reminded me of taking him to the Natural History Museum and zoos when he was young, something I cannot share with his children as I would like.I understand they love the book and I had hoped that would be the case.Hope there are more I can send and thank God for the Amazon service!
This is a wonderful book and I urge all interested in wildlife to buy it and share it with youngsters too.

A beautiful and wondrous book. Fabulous quality, amazing pictures; utterly captivating for 7 year old nature lover. A book that will stand the test of time and probably be passed down to my grandchildren... Fingers crossed. Would love to see more of these for different subjects.

This is the sort of book that will ensure the future co-existence of conventional and electronic books as it is an object of beauty in its own right. An electronic version could not do justice to the artwork in the way this printed copy does. Animalium is sumptuously illustrated and well produced which will ensure it appeals to both children and adultt. Whilst by design, it isn't rich in detail the presentation will ensure it fires imaginations and the desire to explore the natural world. This is the sort of book a child will remember and treasure in later life. Recommended.

A private admittance to your very own museum? What a fantastic concept! Imagine: you can peruse at a pace that suits you, and linger in specially curated ‘rooms’, poring over each and every fantastically presented ‘exhibit’. You can visit at any time that you like, and stay for as long you might fancy. There’s some kind of alchemy going on here, as this feels like something other than just a reading experience. Here’s a mixture of fascination, education, and wonder – all bound within the pages of a wonderfully over-sized book.

Like Big Picture Press’ equally fantastic ‘MAPS’, this is almost A3 in size. It lends itself to this scale to showcase its abundance of breathtakingly beautiful, detailed illustrations. From the blue button jellyfish, to the Masai giraffe, many things feathered, finned, and fur-coated can be found here, and they are incredibly presented. No word of a lie – I even cooed over a sea sponge.

A perfect pitch for nature loving 8-12 year-olds, but bound to be adored by people of all ages both below and well beyond those parameters. I can’t wait to see what might be next in this ‘virtual museum’ series!

The detail that has gone into the book itself, especially the artwork, makes it a stunning read! Highly recommend it for children, especially those with a passion for animals. Younger children may find the information and some of the words difficult to understand, but will no doubt be drawn to the pictures. As a young adult I find it a lovely, light read, appreciating the illustrations and effort gone into the making of this book.

Wonderful book - not just for kids! The type of big book you can just keep on looking at - it's like a little trip to a museum in itself, so well titled. Very happy with this purchase especially as I got it on an offer. Would make a lovely present for children and adults alike.
