Hot Animal Machine is a solo recording by Henry Rollins before the invention of Rollins Band. Recorded in Leeds, UK shortly after Black Flag split. Their influence is clear with a definite punk rock feel to most songs particularly Black and White and Follow Around. The CD also includes the Henrietta Collins and the Wife Beating Childhaters EP featuring the comical Drive-By Shooting and excellent Queen spoof I Have Come To Kill You. The main album is raw and powerful which is what we have come to expect from Mr Rollins. The punk vibe gets you moving and the angry lyrics fuel the need to rock out. Exciting and dark this album comes up and spits in your face forcing you to hit it. Crazy Lover is a full on cover version that was a live favourite for many years. This album is not a smooth transition to a solo career with a few bum songs like Move Right In (a better version is on the life time CD) and No One. But overall this album should not disappoint taking you from the bottom of your soul to laughing out loud. Play it loud and let it rip you up.
