Product Description

Made with the same original secret recipe since 1824, the world famous Angostura® aromatic bitters remains the quintessential and definitive ingredient for classic and contemporary cocktails. Its versatility, however, stretches way beyond the bar counter as it serves as a unique flavour enhancer with the ability to marry flavours in the preparation of all food dishes. Angostura® aromatic bitters also adds its unmistakable flavour and aroma to 'soft' beverages and desserts.

Angostura Bitters are the best and most famous bitters and you'll be lucky if you find them in your local supermarket (I got sent to the beet aisle when I asked for it). Fabulous product and is an essential for any cocktail cabinet. Their are many different flavours but these are the classic and if you want to stock up on your cocktail ingredients this is the way to go. As you only use dashes when using them unless you run a bar they'll last you a fair while too.

My 81 year old father had a bottle of this is his drinks cabinet for years. He has now retired to live by the sea and enjoys a pink gin every evening. He was finding it difficult to obtain this product, so I ordered two for father's day. - Prompt delivery and well packaged for glass bottles - Thank you

It's Angostura bitters. It tastes exactly like Angostura bitters.

Unexpected bonus: it comes in a carton big enough for a 4-slice toaster, should you have one that needs rehousing. (see pic)

I LOVE ANGOSTURA BITTERS AND IT IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A REALLY GOOD GIN AND TONIC, OR, IF YOU ARE ON THE WAGGON - IT MAKES PLAIN TONIC MORE EXCITING AND IMAGINATIVE.

Created in the 1830s by a certain Dr Siegert in Venezuela in the town of Angostura, these bitters are a preparation of gentian originally intended for treating stomach complaints. It was adopted by the British Navy as a medicine for seasickness, but it was soon discovered that it partnered rather well with Plymouth gin. The classic pink gin is made by putting a couple of dashes of the bitters into a glass, swirling it around and shaking out the excess (personally I wouldn't waste any - it is after all 44% alcohol), then adding Plymouth gin, and serving with normal water to top up. Personally I think that tonic works very well. It does indeed add to the complexity of flavours with Plymouth gin. Apart from its use along with gin in particular and cocktails in general, the label suggests a whole load of culinary uses, though I have never personally ventured beyond a partnership with the Plymouth. One annoyance of the bottle is that as you tip it up to shake dashes into a glass, some shoots over the far edge of the glass in the act of tipping. You'd have thought that after 180 years they could perfect the design of the bottle.

No kitchen cupboard should be without this subtle flavour enhancer. A very small amount is a most effective enhancement to soups, stews, curries, and a whole host of other dishes. It can also be used as a drinks mixer... but for me that would be a waste of a food taste improver with few rivals.
