Warrior angels, vampire hunters, and angels gone bad heat up this altogether sizzling paranormal alternate universe which features:

Angels' Pawn is a tale of flirtation and danger set in the Guild Hunter world. Ashwini and Janvier have no reason to be drawn to each other - but they are. Will the spark between them be fanned to become a flame . . . or are they both the pawns of angels?

In Angel's Wolf Noel may have been promoted, but in the Guild Hunter world that's not always as positive as it sounds. And now that he's working with the beautiful, dangerous, seductive Nimra there are a whole host of new risks he has to contend with . . .

In Angels' Judgment Sara and Deacon are Guild Hunters, their life's work is catching and capturing - or killing - rogue angels. They have to make life or death decisions in a moment, but when a judgement has to be made, should love be allowed to get in the way . . . ?

And in the never-before-published Angels' Dance read the compelling story of Jessamy, a beautiful flightless angel who has always held her own in the world of angels and archangels . . . until she meets Galen, and begins to dream of flying . . .

I enjoyed the stories, but I was a little bit surprised that I already owned half of them. In case anyone else is in the same position, the book contains: Angels' Pawn (previously available as an e-book for US customers); Angels' Judgment (previously published in Must Love Hellhounds anthology); Angel's Wolf (previously published in Angels of Darkness anthology); and Angels' Dance (new).

While I am not a massive fan of anthologies, Nalini Singh is good at making interesting and engaging novellas and short stories. All 4 short stories in this book were well written, well paced, and self-contained stories with a good introduction to the Guild Hunter universe, likable characters and great chemistry. This book is pretty entertaining, and would be a good place to start if you are interested in the Guild Hunter series. While I generally think these stories are good, they are by no means masterpieces or must-reads, just a nice anthology for fans of Singh or the series.

Angels' Pawn - Ashwini and Janvier's story is the first in the book, and their story functions as a teaser to the Guild Hunter universe and their future book/novella. The story is really good, Ashwini and Janvier's chemistry and banter is very believable and entertaining, and it is clear that they both have a lot of interesting secrets to be revealed. It is a great introduction to the world.

Angels' Judgement - Sarah and Deacon's story is my least favorite of the bunch. It well written and well-paced, but is completely unengaging and forgettable.

Angels' Wolf - Noel and Nimra's story was a nice, little mystery story with a romantic sub-plot. It had a good story premise and size for a novella, and had some engaging characters. It was nice to see Noel starting to overcome his trauma, and in the end I found the characters and the plot to be engaging, if a bit predictable. The romance definitely takes a backseat to character development in this story, and I think it works out pretty well.

My main problem with this story was Nimra's character, as she came off as incredibly indecisive and spineless.

This collection of four Guild Hunter novellas starts with two stories starring Guild Hunters.

In ANGEL'S PAWN (originally an ebook release) Hunter Ashwini teams up with her erstwhile prey and occasional nemesis, vampire Janvier, to retrieve a kidnapped vamp at the behest of her angel. But things in cruel Nazarach's territory are far from straightforward.

Short though this story is it gives a great introduction to the GH world, and the role hunters play in it. Not that Ashwini is a typical hunter, or Javier a typical vampire either. I love these two, but this story is a cruel tease. I want more! But I've been thinking that for years, while scouring the new books for references to both. Guess I'll have to keep on being patient.

In ANGELS' JUDGEMENT (originally in Must Love Hellhounds) Sara Haziz has been offered the job of Guild Director, a vitally important role in maintaining the balance between humans, vampires and angels. As such she's drawn the attention of the Archangels, and more than one want to test if she's fit for the role. Luckily for her fellow hunter Deacon is on hand to help. But he's no ordinary hunter and rumour is one of their own has gone rogue and needs hunting down.

A nice mystery with a bit of romance set just before the GH series starts. It's nice to see Sara in her hunting days, while Deacon is just delicious. You also glimpse Ellie and Raphael too, before either of them met.

The last two stories are angel-based, focusing on characters introduced in Archangel's Kiss.

Angel's Flight is an anthology containing four novellas set in the Guild Hunter world, each features a different couple and is set at a different point in the series timeline. Angels' Dance, Angels' Judgment and Angels' Pawn are all set before the first book in the series (Angel's Blood) while Angel's Wolf is set between Archangel's Consort and Archangel's Blade. Although I think you could probably get away with reading these stories before the rest of the series I'd actually recommend waiting until you've read at least as far as book 3 just so that you are already familiar with the different characters who star in the novellas. I'm going to talk about each of the stories separately in this review but I would say this book is well worth picking up if you're a fan of the series. I love the world that Nalini Singh has created and it was so much fun to get to know some of the side characters a bit better.

Angels' Pawn - 4.5 stars:
If you have read any of the other books you'll probably remember talk of guild hunter Ashwini and her vampire nemesis. Janvier has a very bad habit of getting himself in trouble with the angels and doing a disappearing act which means the guild are called in to track him down. Ash has spent years chasing him across the world and through the bayou only for him to always make his peace with the angel who hired her just before she catches him. For once Ash's job isn't to search for Janvier though and this time she actually needs his help, she has been asked to find a kidnapped vampire but the last thing she wants is to be caught up in the politics between two of the vampires who report to the angel Nazarach. Since Janvier is familiar with all of the vampires involved she is hoping he can smooth the way and help her through the situation in one piece.
