Well, this was action packed with such huge family dilemmas, and much sadness for the team. No romance, but it leaves an opening for that in the next book in this series I think. Well, I do hope so. Looking forwards to reading it... comes out Summer 2015.
Okay, first off, this is not a romance, but that was not a problem for me. What it is is an exciting police procedural focusing on one of the better female characters I've come across in a long time.
Angel Day is a police sniper, a very good one at that. She is not afraid to take out a bad guy holding hostages with one clean perfect shot to the head whenever necessary. She has saved way more people than she's shot, but it's the shots that get all the attention.
She soon finds herself outside a terrorist compound in the desert. The people inside are dangerous and have already shot at one police officer, wounding him, and killing his horse. The place is surrounded, and everyone is just waiting for the next shoe to drop.
Soon Angel discovers one of the inhabitants of this compound is her wayward little brother. The little brother she raised like a mother. The little brother who is easily swayed by others. The little brother she may have to kill to save her fellow police officers.
The excitement in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I found myself gasping aloud a few times at what was happening. I promise you will be breathless by the end of the book.
This is the first book in the series, but it does not end on a cliffhanger. It tells a complete story. Although there are signs of a possible romance developing between Angel and one of the hostage negotiators, nothing really comes of it in this first book. Perhaps we'll see more of that in the next book? Either way, I will be standing in line to get it when it's published.
You may have guessed from the blurb that this isn't a romance. Nevertheless, my curiosity was piqued...
...and I'm very glad it was. Action packed from the word go, this is a 100 mph charger of a story. But it's not all whizzes and bangs - oh no. We follow Angel, a strong and independent woman, as she deals with the conflict between job and family. And that conflict is described in a very believable manner.
Told from differing viewpoints, which works very well, we are treated to humour, frustration, and anger, with a few others thrown in for good measure. But it never feels over done. A well balanced treat of a tale, and one which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
This is the first thriller book I have read by Blair Babylon and I must say it is one of my favourites. There is action from the first page and the action doesn’t die out like it has in other books. Angel Day is a sniper and a hot one at that. She lives on being in control, both professionally and in her private life. This book had suspense, grief and banter between friends. Exactly what you need in a thriller in my opinion. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. 5 stars.
