This is not for the feint hearted or anyone that wants something that will work right away. It's not for the person looking to get an unusual or surprising gift. It's not for those who aren't prepared to tinker. It IS for those people who enjoy a challenge, who like to achieve something unique and learn a lot along the way. For me this has spurred my interest in this field and I'm already using it to solve minor problems around the home, such as brackets, door locks and covers.
Overall the Anet A8 is something you can really get stuck into if you have the time and motivation to do so. Expect to read and learn a lot along the way but the great thing about this printer over most of the other budget brands is the support. The support for this in its category is unparalleled. You can find support on Facebook, Reddit, Blogs, websites, YouTube and more! Any issues you have are likely to have already been encountered and documented by someone somewhere. This niche community of 3D printing enthusiasts are a friendly nerdy bunch who are always ready to step in and help should the need arise.
Sure it has flaws, the acrylic construction being the biggest, but it isn't a deal-breaker. So long as you're careful, print and install some upgrades and treat it with some respect you should have a fantastic and very rewarding experience. There's a upgrade path from this to a Voron based system so they sky's the limit when it comes to future proofing.
I have no problems recommending this printer to someone who is willing to get stuck in to this amazing hobby.
Unfortunately the power supply supplied did not work. So purchased NEWSTYLE 12V 30A 360W Dc Universal Regulated Switching Power Supply NEWSTYLE 12V 30A 360W Dc Universal Regulated Switching Power Supply for CCTV, Radio, Computer Project and everything worked great.
I was intending to upgrade the power supply anyway, and had expectations that as this is a kit I would have to do some troubleshooting. But had to mark down the review because out-of-the-box PSU didn't function.
My only gripe is that I'm finding it difficult to get the filament down into the nozzle - takes ages to do, but I'm sure this is just a knack I will acquire as time goes on. Overall, very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this model.
There are lots of things that need to be printed to make the product better. Under 6hrs of installation and electronics were straight forward. Recommend watching the you tube guide. Comes with 8gb SD and pretty much ready to go.
However I should warn you that the setting up is a headache as you need to do it every print and fiddle with settings on the software to over come it. Good prints could be better.
I’m rating it low because I have had it less than 2 weeks and the hot bed wire burned out. Fingers crossed that it wasn’t major. This was due to a long run on prints non stop for 6 hours. Bed tempruture 72 C and that’s because I have glass bed and I need more heat. And now I just need to replace the wire or solder it to the hot bed directly. Fingers crossed again!
There are few things that they don’t mention which is anoying. Such as tightening ever single bolt. Just because it’s pre packed and loaded doesn’t mean it’s all secure. And another thing about the Z axes rods that they are not short but you only need to stuff it in about 5mm, and the motor shaft or it wobbles.
