It does what it says on the tin

So there is no doubt. This makes coffee. But it doesn't get 5 stars because honestly - it is not perfect. The instructions take a bit of reinterpretation to work out that actually the amount of water passed is (or appears to be) proportional to the number you dialed in for cups. Weird but true. They tell you some water is absorbed, so add a bit more. But when you do that you can sometimes end up with water left in the tank. I'm used to a coffee maker putting all the water in the tank through. This one can cut out before it's finished. Initially I had to get it to restart 3 times for a full tank of water - how does that work then?
I rang help desk and they asked if I'd descaled it. ITS NEW - shouldn't need de-scaling. But I did that. now it behaves a bit better.
So we're quite nervous that it'll last as long as it's predecessor as it seems a bit random.
I like the timer. I like the grinder, I like that it makes good coffee. I don't like that I must guess how much extra to put in, and adding 7 cups of water and setting to 6 seems to produce 2 mugs of coffee. Go figure.
And don't try to overfill (per the instructions) For a full jug - because the water just pours out of the back through an undocumented overflow hole. So it DOESNT DELIVER a full jug (cos you can't add the extra water the instructions tell you to add!)
The coffee bean hopper doesn't hold a whole packet of beans - that's just rubbish really!
Does it work - yes
Do you have to reverse engineer and get into the mindset of the manufacturer - perhaps
Would I recommend it ? Maybe
I like this product and will stick with it, it works as advertised - mostly. We bought it for (a) Can work with pre-ground and good capacity controls and timer, (b) dimensions so it would fit under the worktop overhang (we failed - it's too tall). There may be other products out there for a lot more money that require much bigger worktop space - so this is truly VFM since it met our needs. Just about.
