Product Description
The Andrew James Premium 12 Litre Halogen Oven is an economical appliance that lets you roast, bake, grill, fry, steam, anything you would do in a normal cooker but faster and using less energy. As it heats up so quickly, there's no need to preheat meaning the oven cooks up to 40% faster than a standard electric oven. It uses only 0.867 kWh at 200°C which over a year can save you as much as 40 pounds compared to cooking with a standard electric oven.
Take full control of your cooking with the adjustable temperature control dial You can heat the powerful 1400 watt oven up to 250 degrees centigrade or keep it on a low heat for reheating etc. You can set the 60 min timer to let you know when your food is ready.
Simple manual controls and indicator lights make this oven so simple to use, you just have to turn dials rather than select complicated heating programmes like you find with some digital halogen ovens. The glass bowl is removable and easy to clean, just make sure it has completely cooled down before you try to lift it. Don’t worry if you haven’t used a halogen oven before, we’ve included some tasty recipes in the instruction book to get you started.
Additional Information:
To make the most of your halogen oven we’ve included an accessories pack that contains a high grill rack, low grill rack, baking tray, steamer tray, tongs and 4 metal skewers. Because this isn’t an oven with a hinged lid we’ve also included a lid holder to store the lid and prevent accidental burns to your worktops.
We’ve also included two more helpful accessories. The 5 litre extender ring can increase the capacity of your oven up to 17 litres, great for when you are cooking for extra guest. There’s also a replacement bulb should you need to change your halogen oven bulb at any point.

I must be honest and admit that I don't always read instructions all that carefully, especially if it is a product I have used before. As a halogen cooker is a completely new experience for me I read carefully from the very beginning. It says that item 3, the Lid with time and temperature dials etc, can be washed in the dishwasher. Common sense told me this was wrong, and there is writing on the lid about not being immersed in water. However as it also says that before first time use all accessories are cleaned before use, and immediately then details items that can go in the dishwasher. Unsuspecting folk might just do that without thinking. I have advised Andrew James and they have acknowledged their mistake - hopefully they will have the manual amended immediately.
Now to the machine itself. I had read many (not all!) reviews and had considered the size. My concern that it would be smaller than would be practical for us, and even having considered the dimensions I was a bit wary. However when it is set up it actually appears very roomy - very deceptive - and so that was a pleasant surprise.
It takes a little while to think how you are actually going to do certain things - I decided to have a treat and have bacon, mushrooms, and eggs this morning. Then I realised that the accompanying book does not always give all the instructions you need - like the temperature setting! Look through Q&A and guidance is given (250C) and on with the job. Well it wasn't the most successful, but I am certain that with some trial and error I will get the timings correct - certainly the 7 minutes given in the book was nowhere long enough for the bacon.
I note comments saying the extension ring does not fit well, and it was shoogly, etc - well it will be shoogly if you fit it upside down! It fits perfectly the right way up.
Amongst the accessories there is no mention of the spare halogen bulb (although it is listed on Amazon as being included). Please take care as you unpack - the bulb protection is minimal and you will have to store it carefully - light cardboard packaging would have been useful.
So - I think it will prove very an excellent purchase - and practical, and in the light of more use I will update this review.
UPDATE! A very quick update - I hadn't realised that along with the booklet that came with the machine there is also an Andrew James cookbook which has better information on cooking times and close on 100 recipes specifically aimed at the halogen oven. The information I gleaned from the Q&A was not as good as that given in this book.
BUT what a pleasure. Being on my own I resent putting the oven on for one item, 30 mins heat up, 30p/hour running costs for however long it says on the packet. With this, there is no preheat, it costs around 18p/hour to run (on my tariff), turns on and off with the thermostat, and cooks quicker too. I now enjoy all sorts of foods I hadn't had for ages. It's already paid for itself, I would urge anyone to get one but especially if cooking for one. Southern fried chicken filets and French fries for me tonight. And it's low fat too!
Further to this review, I've continued to use it (a lot) and it seems to be going strong. The wire holder for the lid takes a bit of getting used to, and the lid handle does come out of its sockets when trying to manoeuvre it onto its side to put it in th stand, which could be a safety issue if one is not careful.
However, I purchased a halogen oven from Andrew James at the end of November 2018. I used it fewer than 20 hours in total then it stopped working. It lit up but did not heat. I tried to fit the spare bulb but there was no connector, as detailed in the instructions, just a bit of tape which was burnt through. I sent photos to Andrew James and asked for a label to return this dangerous an faulty oven. I did as instructed and emailed Andrew James Customer Service a photo of the receipt card and number and received a thank you email DPD told me they had delivered the oven to Andrew James on 22nd January 2019.
It is now 21st February 2019 and I have received NO REFUND and no further communication from this company. I consider them to have, effectively, stolen my money.
I will never, never, never buy anything from the company ever again. I think Amazon would do well to look into this company and see if they wish to keep them on Amazon, if this is the way they treat customers.
The two controls are simple to use and easily readable. The extra heat element is a nice, customer friendly touch. All in all it’s excellent.
