Despite my initial apprehension at reading a book by an author I'm unfamiliar with, I cannot praise Andor: Awakening (The Shae Series) highly enough; the graphic, sensory descriptions really bring this dynamic new world out of the pages (as is evident from the first parargraph - "the single break in an otherwise seamless sheet of azure"), and complement the intricately-woven plot with exceptional flair.

Perhaps more impressive still is the degree of character development that appears effortlessly blended into an already detailed and layered landscape - characters are immediately accessible in their fundamental personalities, and further defined through the use of subtle hints at great emotional depths that make each character a true tapestry of thoughts and experiences.

I could go on, but feel it more appropriate to keep this review short(ish) and conclude as follows; it is rare to stumble upon such a distinctive and precise author so early in their career. I am left yearning for O'Keeffe's future works.

Excellent first book by a new author, loved the story line, want the second installment now. Recommend this book to anyone who wants a good solid read that will keep them interested throughout.

A brilliant first book in the series, it kept the pace throughout the whole story. Definitely worth a read and is the best book I've read in a long while. Eagerly anticipating the second!

I downloaded this book three days ago and really struggled to put it down.

The pace is terrific throughout, I care about the characters, and I didn't feel bogged down by unnecessarily detailed descriptions (which I find happens with some of the more established fantasy authors).

My only criticism would be the frequency of typos; those that should be picked up by proofreaders rather than a spellchecker.

Bottom line is - I can't wait for the sequel!

Andor: Awakening is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. I found myself completely immersed in it's rich storyline and found I couldn't stop reading it, eagerly awaiting what came next. It's amazing what gems you can find from previously unheard authors. I'm sure this is the beginning for Brendan O'Keefe and I cannot wait for the next book. Do yourself a favour and read it!
