Over 60 metres of hardwearing sisal rope is wrapped around the Fat Boy meaning it can take the punishment of the toughest cat. I had such a giggle when I opened the box with this scratcher in, I clearly hadn't looked at the dimensions properly! My cat LOVES it! It's so much sturdier than any scratch post I've got before, the height is great, my cat can have a good stretch while using it. I really recommend it.

***EDIT*** I've had this a full year now and it's still in fantastic condition, even though it's used constantly. Can't recommend enough.

It was so good I've just bought another. I bought one of these about 3 years ago and our cat used it every day. It's really sturdy so won't wobble when the cat scratches it.

The picture is the old one next to the replacement as you can see it is a well loved post. Every other scratch post I've had over the years has been mostly ignored except this one.

Massive thumbs up! Every cat should have one. Our boy is on the larger side and this is fantastic for him.

Your sofa will thank you for It!

I definitely misread/underestimated the dimensions of this (in a good way), it's much bigger than I expected and the perfect size for my (rather large) Ragdoll. He can now fully stretch out whilst scratching.
It looks great quality, the rope looks like it will last a long time and the build is sturdy and doesn't wobble when my cat jumps on it unlike other scratch post/trees I've had in the past.

Bit disappointed as my last one of these lasted years with two big Maine Coon cats. I replaced it with this one because the sisal finally gave out and the sisal on this one is probably less than half the thickness of the previous one. I doubt it will last anywhere near as long so wish I'd shopped around or maybe even replaced the sisal rope for a couple of quid instead of buying a whole new one. Ultimately, the only freestanding cat post I've found that can take on a fully grown Maine Coon but I give it a year or two at most. Last one probably lasted ten years!

Over the years we have bought many different scratching posts for our cats, but I have to say the 70 cm Ancol Acticat Fat Boy Scratch Post is in a league of its own. Our cat loves it. He can stretch to his full height and give it a great old double pawed scratch ... and due to the size of the post, it doesn't even move! Furthermore, he can jump and sit on the top of it (which he has done briefly a couple of times).
Other, slimmer, posts have been fine but often have worn out quite quickly, resulting in us either trying to 're-rope' them or having to replace them with a new scratching post. This one looks like it will last considerably longer ... and be more popular in the process.
Two things to bear in mind; firstly, it is huge (as you can see from some of the photos other customers have posted)! Secondly, you also have a small DIY task before the post can be used: you need to 'attach' the post to its base as the base is provided separately in the box and is folded in two. The post attaches to the base with two thick screws (provided, along with an allen key for tightening them). As one tightens the screws the base pulls itself taut against the post and provides a rigid base. However, this is a quick and extremely simple process.
So even though this post is more expensive than the 'slimmer' posts one can buy, in my opinion, the quality of this scratching post is definitely worth the additional expense.

It is taller and narrower than my previous Ancol Fat Boy scratch post - but the cats like it and it means that they can stretch really high (even though they don't scratch anywhere near the top on the shorter post). I've had my original Ancol post for about 5 years and it was worn really well. The new one is already starting to show a gap between the sisal - I hope that it won't start to come unravelled. That is why I've only given 4 stars.

My cat used it once and the string came apart (see photos), All scratch posts i have purchased in the past have always had the string glued on to the post, i assumed this one would too but it is not. which is a shame as it would be perfect if it was. for the price it should have been made properly because it would be stronger and last longer and after all pva glue doesn't cost much so.
Was easy to put together though, and it is solid in itself making it good for full body stretch ,It's just the fact the string hasn't been glued on it is in a state far too soon with lots of large gaps between strings, i may take the string off and reapply with glue.
