The book starts with an introduction, with a map of the Nile area, a brief outline of the four periods of the Egyptian civilisation, and a bit about hieroglyphics. It goes on to look at technology, before introducing an Ancient Egyptian family. From the son, Badru, we are told about the river, and an ancient Egyptian house. From the daughter, Anka, we are told about fashion. The book then goes on to look at a town, through the eyes of Badhu, along with the temple, and the temple workshops. There is then a double page about the gods and goddesses, a page about the Pharohs, and a page, with a simple chronology, of famous kings and queens. The end of the book looks at death, the afterlife, and pyramids.
I bought this for my 9 year old, who is looking at the Egyptians at school - and she really enjoyed it. Some sections she read, sometimes she just pored over the illustrations. She was particularly taken with the hieroglyphics page.
There is a great deal of information, and its perfect for Key Stage 2 or 3 children who are interested, or studying the Ancient Egyptians.
