Ron (Will Ferrell) gets terminated from his job and leaves his wife. He is offered a job from upstart GNN 24 hour news. He assembles his news team etc. etc. etc. The plot is not important. The film is fairly simple and it is more like a connection of skits and one liners than a real situation comedy. You could pretty much start watching the movie at any time and it wouldn't matter. The humor, while crude at times, was original and funny. Sure there were a few scenes I would have cut, the condom selection and racist dinner, but there were too many scenes which had me laughing out loud. Excellent support cast.

Some lines from the film:

"Bats: Chicken of the cave."
"He wanted to donate his organs before he died."
"Remember ten years from now..."
"He bottle fed and raised a shark..."

This is high caliber low brow humor. Crude and racial at times.

Parental Guide: 2 F-bombs. No nudity. Brief comical sex scene. Crude sexual talk.

Anchorman 2 starts, continues and ends in comparative mayhem. From Harrison Ford grumbling magnificently as a legendary led anchor to an apocalyptic showdown in Central Park the comedy sequel is a scatter-shot collection of weird, random, occasionally sensational moments. Picking up a decade after the events of the original film which left the channel four news team (comprised once again of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrel and David Koechner) having reclaimed their place as the top ratings team in San Diego. Now in the 1980s they’re reunited in New York in a bid to launch the first 24 hour news network. Loosely speaking that’s the premise.

From this thin line the writing team of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell launch into bizarre flights of fancy that take the anarchic sense of humour from the first instalment (choice example of Tim Robbins chopping Luke Wilson’s hand off with a machete in a news gang battle) and up the ante ferociously. Characters and plot strands are introduced then left behind or consigned to the background. Animals perform acts of great redemptive heroism and violence and somewhere in there Ron Burgundy stumbles upon the notion that high speed car chases and sensationalist, jingoistic journalism sells. None of this adds up to much in the way of a story, none of it really needs to. Whatever faults-mainly an inconsistent stream after laughs after a bombardment in the opening fifteen minutes-the moment Will Ferrell appears in full Burgundy swagger something magical happens.

Back in his signature role I found it impossible not to smile at the sight of that moustache, walk, and irresistible sense of buffoonery which made the character so endearing ten years ago.Read more ›

As things move into the 1980's, now a father, Ron Burgundy is fired from his news anchor job & takes a downward spiral. However they're is soon hope, as an upcoming News Network GNN is looking for anchormen to front it's new idea of a 24 hour news show. It's time to round up the old team & shake things up again! Comedy & mayhem ensue.

Overall Anchorman 2 is a bit of a disappointment truth be told, with only a few new ideas hitting the mark & having to rely on the continuity of the characters, scenarios & running jokes from the first film to pull itself up. It's starts promisingly enough with Ron getting the old team back together in humorous fashion, "bat, the chicken of the cave", but once it hits the Manhattan news rooms it falls a bit flat & stretched. Partly because they extended the run time of the film, and nothing much worthwhile to fill it with. The additional screaming rants of Brick Tamland with his romance sub plot were just painful to experience, Ron going blind & a bizarre rehabilitation of a shark all served no meaningful chunks of meat on the bat, all tendon. Still, the satire of how they made Ron the inventor of new ideas that dumbed down news reporting & some hindsight gags playing on current news/political events was funny. As was Ron's new African American female boss, Linda Jackson, who turns the sexism & chauvinism of the first film on it's head, being a feisty new 80's woman she emasculate's Ron hilariously, along with an amiable poke at interracial relationships. Things did pick up near the end with one of the main highlight's of the film, albeit arguably a little OTT. The news team Battle Royale, chopped full of star studded cameo appearances that came as a welcome relief, i wont spoil it with details.Read more ›

I found this pretty funny. I don't understand all the comments saying "the first one is amazing, the comedy in this one is rubbish" or something similar since the humour is pretty much the same

I suppose what's a little disappointing is it's too much like the first one. There are new scenes but they tell the same story underneath.

Overall: Funny, worth watching but definitely only worth renting.
