Product Description

Review

This second edition of an already highly popular book for anyone who has experienced sports injuries features 25 per cent more anatomy text and drawings and new colour illustrations of the rehabilitation exercises. This is a classic easy-to-read reference book that features 120 injuries that any recreational runner, or professional athlete, could suffer from. Each sports injury is thoroughly examined via: the anatomy and physiology involved, possible causes, signs and symptoms, complications, immediate treatment, rehabilitation procedures and long-term prognosis. The RF office rated the illustrated rehabilitation exercises at the end of each injury section, and we liked the focus on a thorough approach to prevention; both provide invaluable insight into what our bodies are doing, and why. If you have a recurring injury, and want to get to the root of the problem, how to rehabilitate the area and prevent further complications in the future, this book is worth a read. --Running Fitness magazine

For those who play sport and athletics in particular, one thing is certain: you will pick up an injury of some description and when it occurs it is usually a complete surprise. Months and years of training along with carefully laid plans can be put in disarray if a quick and positive remedy is not found. The author, Brad Walker, shows in this updated and expanded edition exactly what is happening inside your body when injury strikes. With more than 250 pages, 300 full colour anatomical illustrations and more than 100 colour drawings, the book suggests stretching, strengthening and rehabilitation exercises to help speed up the recovery process. It covers everything from an explanation of injuries, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation before delving into great detail of each and every body injury site, which is literally from tip to toe with nothing excluded! While most athletes associate injury problems with muscle and joint aches and pains, Walker also gives useful advice on such malaises as black nail and ingrown toenail. Not only are the necessary treatments explained, but also the cause, symptoms complications, prevention and long term prognosis. --Athletics Weekly magazine

This is a well-presented book, which is both clear and readable for both new and experienced osteopaths, particularly for sport. The anatomy, sports injuries and rehabilitation techniques cover a simple but useful approach. The diagrams are helpful and could be a useful tool to show patients how the injury has affected the anatomy structures. All round, a useful book to have in a clinic. --Emma Clarkson BSc (Hons) Ost, BSc (Hons) Sport, The Osteopath (magazine of the General Osteopathic Council)

This book is brilliant. I am a therapist but not a physio & I feel I need to know more than I know - this book helps enormously in helping me tell clients how to help themselves after they have left me as well as helping me to understand more injuries than I have been trained. Very good structure too as it is split into parts of the body. My only suggestion to improve this would be if there were more illustrations of the exercises/movements to aid rehab as they at the moment can appear a little unclear in some.

This book is really helpful when you are training in sports massage, it gives you an overview of the injury and exercises to help prevent injury. I used it for my ITEC sports massage diploma and for VCTC sports massage. This book is also really useful when you first start treating people by yourself as it covers some injuries you might not have covered in classes.

I give it 4 stars due to the lack of descriptions for rehabilitation exercise drawings, but apart from that this is realy good concise reference book. Very pleased with it.

Excellent reference book with clear anatomical diagrams, descriptions of every possible injury with suggestions for rehabilitation exercises. As someone who is more of an First Aider than physotherapist I know this will be useful when advising colleagues as to whether they should seek more specialist advice. Certainly a book that will expand my understanding; I imagine it would be invaluable to someone who works in sports medicine.

This book was the most helpful book for my Sport injuries and prevention module. It came quickly and soon I had friends begging me to let them see the book. I love it because each injury is set out really clearly with preventative stuff too. That book was the main reason I got a really high mark in that module. If you are studying anything to do with sports injury GET THIS BOOK!
