About the Author

Spanish and travel are just a few of my passions. This Summer I had one of those "Ah ha!" moments that makes it all worth it... all over again! I was on a brief camel tour of the Sahara with a group of French tourists. As I speak little French and I was in an Arab nation, I couldn't understand much. I simply enjoyed the scenery and took notes on my iPad. That is when it happened. The French man on the camel next to me said, "Hablo español." It couldn't get any brighter in the Sahara at noon in July, but for me... it was as though the lights had just come on. The man, whose name I never learned, translated for me throughout the tour and even helped me out of a few snags with the locals. Learning a language can be so rewarding! The time we invest practicing opens so many doors of understanding :) In addition to Spanish, I have dabbled in Swahili, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and Arabic. My language study is often influenced by my family's travels. My husband and two boys (ages 11 and 12) enjoy every opportunity to travel abroad, usually to help a rural school. You can see these same travels influencing the subjects of the books that I write. I prefer to write in Spanish since these books then become useful to me in the classroom (the french one was translated by another teacher). I can never have enough reading material, especially stories that are highly comprehensible to a learner. In addition to the stories I have written, I have published one written by students entitled "Anabela por siempre" [search for that one separately as it is not on this page] and last year I had the privilege of publishing a sci-fi Spanish mini-novel with TPRS Publishing. I encourage you to keep reading in your target language. I do! I like my students to see me reading best-sellers in Spanish and for them to know that I believe reading is a wonderful tool to improve fluency. :)

I have looked a few times for Spanish reading material. It always seem to be either too easy or full of words that I don't understand. I really enjoyed reading this book because I didn't have to keep stopping to look up words in the dictionary. There were plenty of phrases and words I hadn't encountered before but it wasn't difficult to work out the meaning from the Spanish text. For me it was a great confidence builder and an interesting story too.

I loved reading this book and seeing the present & past tenses and direct / indirect object pronouns actually in use beyond the 1 sentence examples in most text books. It was so encouraging to be able to read and understand the majority of the book, but whereever I struggled, I simple highighted the section to review later with my tutor. I will hunt out and buy more of these kindle books for sure.

I really enjoyed this book. Firstly as previous revewers say, it is a fantastic confidence builder. The language used is easily understood without continual reference to a dictionary but not too basic. It made me feel that I am making some progress in Spanish as I could not have read this a year ago. I have recommended this to other members of my Spanish class as a good learning tool. Also I like the storyline, fantasy being my favourite genre in reading material.

Great book. Just at my level of Spanish so I wasn't looking up every other word but enough for it to push me a little. Recommended.

I've been looking for books like this to keep up with my Spanish, so when I came across this I gave it a go. It made me feel much more confident about my Spanish as I realised I understood it all pretty much - had to look up the odd word or two but other than that a very easy read. The story line isn't amazing but I wasn't reading it for the story line. Actually saying that, I did want to read on to find out what happened so not bad at all really. I'm really happy with this book, wish it was longer to get more practice in and definitely would like more books like this one. I don't get the opportunity to speak Spanish anymore so books like these are ideal for keeping it fresh in my head. Would definitely buy another.

At last an involving and interesting story. Easily the best for Spanish 'starters' like me. Link to a spanish english dictionary if you need some assistance with new expressions. Can we have more like this. Not seen better since the Pepe Rey detective series which are also fun 'adult' stories. If you are a learner but know some Spanish, grab this with both hands!

Once you realise this was written by a group of students / pupils, you know why it's like it is. As an ex-English teacher, I have read any number of poorly plotted stories with no character development etc. and this one is no different, but longer! However, I was trying to brush up my Spanish which had lain dormant for years, so it was good at that level. Occasional words are glossed in English: some of these are very common everyday words, whilst some less usual ones were ignored. However, in conjunction with a good Spanish English dictionary and a mono-lingual Spanish dictionary all on my Kindle, there were no problems reading the book, except for the badly developed plot!
