I have always felt he was a great man and someone to be admired, but this view was based on a very limited amount of information I was aware of. In reading these thoughts of Ghandi it highlighted his thinking and brings you a better understanding of the man.
I have always enjoyed the Attenborough film but this book gives real background into the man that walks off the boat 5 minutes into the film and how he was forged in the crucible of South Africa at the start of the 20th Century. It gives both an understanding of why he was so revered and also his own thinking. He is the first to be honest and admit his own weaknesses - something I would suspect is missing from the recent autobigraphies of leading politicians.
He believed in one thing above all else - Unity. Shame more do not follow his path.
