Hi, I’m Amy Brann and I’m fascinated by the application of neuroscience to business.
Growing up people always interested me and I thought that the way that I’d get to indulge my fascination and desire to help people was to go into the field of medicine. Getting distracted by training medical students internationally on their soft skills that would help them be more effective in their future roles opened me up to different careers that may be fulfilling for me. (Running trainings on beautiful lake fronts in Macedonia, or with stunning mountain back-drops in Turkey or in the scorching heat of Egypt with the Red Sea to cool off in probably helped!)
After that, training as a Coach to work one-on-one with people gave me great insights into the common challenges people faced and the most effective ways to overcome them. Coaching hundreds of people for thousands of hours doubled up as a great informal research ground.
Many of the tool, models and techniques I came across left me asking 'why does this work?' or often 'how could this work better?'. That's when I zoned in much more heavily on neuroscience. I found it answered lots of questions and raised quality new ones.
These days, while I still do some work with individuals most of my time is spent now researching and working with companies to develop their understanding of how the brains of their employees and clients work. I still enjoy travelling though and so try to ensure at least a couple of contracts each year are somewhere warm.
The potential within our minds is incredible and helping people better connect with that is a lot of fun!
