The sound quality from this little piggy is actually very, unexpectedly, brilliant! The bass control and treble can be easily controlled using the provided remote to get it to the desired effect. The volume can go very high, ideal if you are having a party and have your ipod on random for the occassion!
The iPig also comes with numerous attachments to suit whatever ipod you have, it can also be used with any mp3 player, computer, phone etc that has a headphone socket, a connector is provided for this scenario! Very handy indeed! The ears of the pig also act as a touch sensitive volume control which is a cool little extra!!
If this pig doesn't give you nightmares then i recommend it as a different docking station...makes a change from the usual square and rectangular ones!! A highly amusing docking station that will make you smile everytime you look at, especially if you like pigs like I do!
If it's lacking anything, it's high-end "airiness", but as a package, it's highly recommended. Despite its diminutive size, it's not lacking grunt in the bass - it plays within its capabilities, without any of the over-emphasized boom-box effect. A separate bass level control allows for some adjustment of the "subwoofer".
It comes with a selection of dock adaptors but does not include one specifically for the Nano 4G; nor does Apple's adaptor fit its mounting points. This isn't a problem - the Nano sits nicely in one of the larger dock adaptors, supported solely by the dock connector. Just make sure nothing hits the exposed iPod (pillow fights?) and you should be fine. I might use my Dremel (Dremel Rotary Tool 300 Series + 25 Accessories) to fit Apple's adaptor into one of the pig's supplied adaptors if I can be bothered.
In summary, don't be concerned about the novelty aspect suggesting toy-like quality - snout to worry about.
For his size and price I think he sounds very good. Of course the sound is directional and he can't thump out the full bass sound some are hoping for. Output is capped at 25 watts so he's not intended to replace a stereo system or compete with a higher specified (and higher priced) ipod speaker but does well in a medium size room. He's perfect for a bedroom or kitchen and I would be quite happy with him in the lounge. You can adjust treble and bass up and down by 5 units, with the treble turned down 2 units and the bass increased 5 units I think he is just about right for my classical music. If you want that penetrate through the walls pounding bass then look elsewhere. He handles the full range of treble, mid and bass tones very well to give a good balanced sound.
He comes with a nice slim colour matched fully functional remote which can control your ipod menu system, bass, treble and volume, is very responsive and works well. He's quite a solid little unit, surprisingly weighty and appears to be well made. Of course time will tell and if any problems develop I will revise my review accordingly.
Its a good weight and good build quality (doesn't feel light, cheap & nasty like some other docks do) it looks great! and it sounds fab!
I opened it from the box and within seconds had put in my 160gb iPod Classic and within a few more seconds great music came from the pig!
My Black iPod Classic looks great in the yellow iPig I bought. The remote controller is good and I love how you can increase/decrease volume by touching his ears *lol*
Its funky, its fun! I love it!
I've uploaded a pic so you can see what my iPod looks like in the yellow iPig.
My hubby loves it too and begged me to give it to him! I said no chance! its mine :) My iPig is far too gorgeous to go into his manky shed to play his foul music (he has no musical taste, honest)
I really like this, I'm very pleased with it and it does look great!
