About the Author

Over the years I have worked as a nurse, a school teacher, a martial arts instructor, baseball, figure-skating and gymnastics coach as well as an artist, selling my paintings in an art gallery. I have been part of an orchestra, flown planes and gone on wilderness hikes. I am an officer in the Canadian Forces, and though I have taught on different military bases, for now I work primarily with cadets. Writing full time is my next goal.

If you enjoyed the first one, you'll really enjoy the second. I can't imagine reading the second without having read the first, as it would explain a lot of the background, though it is its own story. There is the development of the original characters even further and a couple of new characters are introduced. There is the development of part of the plot started in the first book, and some huge developments in Tommy personal life!! I was gripped, thoroughly engaged and i sincerely look forward to a third book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, clean sci-fi read 11 April 2015
By Lauren Lynch - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The medical and healing aspects of this book were unique and I wasn't surprised to learn in the bio at the end that the author has a background in nursing and holistic health. The futuristic world Debbie Brown creates is both plausible and appealing. I found the American Indian cameos to be one of the most interesting elements of the story, offering practical advice to Tommy, a teen coming of age. It was also amusingly believable that the Indian characters from Earth had no problem interacting with an advanced alien culture sent to assist the planet through environmental difficulties. Amethyst Eyes is an entertaining and "clean" read appropriate for a wide range of readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sci-fi read for all ages 31 Oct. 2016
By This Kid Reviews Books - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Synopsis- Tommy has been living with his father on the Phoenix for three years now, and is starting his cadet training. The Phoenix is an interplanetary vessel that helps worlds in danger of natural extinction and helps colonize other planets. When a new botanist named Fardoc destroys the arboretum where they contain plant life, and injures Tommy as well, something is awry. But then other things happen that make it seems that there is a plot to undo the Phoenix’s work. Things like Tommy’s father, the commander, returning unconscious. What if Fardoc isn’t just a jerk, but something much worse?

What I Thought- I liked this story. It captured the feel of the first book perfectly. The science-fiction world is believable, and I felt like I could live in it. Tommy is a character other teens can relate to. Not only is he adapting to a world that he’s not used to, but he’s also changing it for the better while learning about being the leader. What I like about the book is that even though Tommy is 18, the book is still appropriate for 12-year-olds. Ms. Brown has a writing style that engages you. The plot has a lot of twists and turns and action that keep you on the edge of your beanbag chair. There is a lot of mystique happening throughout the book. I really hope that there is a book 3, and that it is as fun as this!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Story Continues 2 Jan. 2015
By christine hooker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The second book of [Amethyst Eyes] by [Debbie Brown] continues the story of Tommy as he comes to terms with who he is. The story picks up three years after the first ended. I liked how the events on Earth that were considered critical could truly be identified as the Japanese Tsunami. I do not know if there will be another books since this one came to a resolution but as we all know one resolution always leads to a new story.
