MF Grimm has been shot more times than 50 Cent, this clearly makes him a better rapper, right ? Well yes he is, but he doesnt need that statistic to make it so.MF Grimm has been around since 1992 and penned a lot of the lyrics for Dr. Dre's The Chronic, so like it or not, the majority of you have already had the chance to experience some Grimm lyrics. Shot 11 times and left in a wheelchair Grimm has seen it all, giving him perfect backdrop to be a gangsta rapper, some one who could rap his life story on every song and blow up big, but he resists temptation and doesnt sell out.

Roll on 2006. After spending 3 years in prison Grimm had a weatlh of material written, the result of this being the 60 track musical odyssey spanning 3 discs - American Hunger. As you can tell from the album artwork and title, Grimm is not afraid to cause controversy and he does so on many occasions over the course of the politically charged album making his feelings on everything from the treatment of blacks to the war in Iraq very clear from the outset (as early as the very first track in which he refers to America as 'the belly of the beast). Due to this lyrical onslaught of the American goverment on numerous track you are sucked in and will find yourself analysing each track in detail to hear if there is more of the same, and believe me there is.

Grimm also has the backing of his crew M.I.C throughout the album as well as guest apperances by highly rated artists ranging from Block McCloud of Brooklyn Academy (signed to DayByDay), Ill Bill and Large Professor. All this superb lyricsm and flow paired with steller production makes for a very enjoyable experience even if it can be tough enough to fight through all 60 tracks in one sitting.

The guy has sweated and suffered to produce what is a real underground gem. I kept expecting to have to skip through loads of fillers and/or skits when I first ordered this, but the production and the flow is classic throughout; some really nice beats, heartfelt rapping; the best thing I can say about this album is that there is no way I could trim it down to even 2 CDs, let alone 1. If there is a better value album out there, I haven't found it yet. So much bang for your buck. It's not an overpolished commercial sound, the content is varied, interesting, emotional, charged - and like a lot of the best MCing, completely effortless sounding and easy to feel. If you take some time to find out about the man himself - and what he's been through - you can understand what motivated him to go several miles further to produce this album than 95% of all other hip-hop albums that have ever been released. The only bad thing about ordering this album is the length of time it took to arrive (3 months!) Still, worth the wait and well worth 5 stars.
