So many recipes - so little time!!! This book is crammed full with all of those recipes that you salivate over when watching american cooking shows or tv shows! Full of colour photo's. The recipes are weighed out in grams and ounces rather than the american cups system making it easier. There are also lots of little tips for alternative items you can use if you can't get hold of certain ingredients as well as little bits of history about certain dishes! Great recipes included are southern fried chicken ( also a healthier baked option), steak and cheese burrito's, huevos rancheros, chicken fried steak and pulled pork along with recipes such as peach cobbler, caramel cinnamon buns, cinnamon churros and double chocolate brownie! At the end there is also a candies and preserves(pickles) section! Well worth the money especially during bbq season!

It's plain for all to see that a huge amount of thought went into compiling this book: glossy pages, easy to follow instructions (averaging 3 or 4 small sentences per recipe) and sumptuous photographs for each recipe to whet your appetite.

The book is divided into Sections:

Starters, Soups and Salads - a taste of the Northeast
Breakfasts and Light Bites - a taste of the Southeast
Mains and Sides - a taste of the Southwest and Midwest
Desserts - (no direction for the desserts)
Baking, Candy and Preserves - a taste of the Pacific Northwest

but whichever point of the compass you focus on, the recipes are easy to follow, easy to make and even easier to eat. Those I have tried are:

Blueberry Crumb Cake (Page 215) - like a crumble but in cake form (other fruits can be used if you wish) - yummy
Spiced Apple & Pear Crisp (Page 197) - 'crisp' is the American for our UK 'crumble' and this works very, very well
Boston Cream Trifle (Page 180) - MASSIVE and massively Moorish. I used ready-made Vanilla Custard (not the yellow kind) from the supermarket
Triple-layered Coconut Cake (Page 212) - a stunner of a cake; gooey and gorgeous and only lasted two minutes in my house
Lemon Sour Cream Pound Cake (Page 219) - like a lemon drizzle cake without the drizzle but with a bit more 'zing'

Some of the recipes have secondary suggestions ie the Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella Pizza on Page 102 has a 'Now Try This' suggestion on the right-hand side of the page, where is listed 'Parma Ham', 'Ricotta Sauce', 'Griddled Chicken' as alternatives to the original.

It's an ok book, i was quite disappointed that a lot of traditional dishes aren't in here, just assumed that an American cookbook would have Meatloaf, sloppy Guiseppe's, Fried Reuben Sandwich, Corn dogs etc in it. It's still a nice book, but i was after more traditional

Bought as a gift, I couldn't resist having a good look through this book before I wrapped it. It's really good. Lots of delicious recipes from various parts of America, all of them very authentic looking. Lovely photos, great menu ideas...I hope to be sampling the food very soon.
