The book is divided into Sections:
Starters, Soups and Salads - a taste of the Northeast
Breakfasts and Light Bites - a taste of the Southeast
Mains and Sides - a taste of the Southwest and Midwest
Desserts - (no direction for the desserts)
Baking, Candy and Preserves - a taste of the Pacific Northwest
but whichever point of the compass you focus on, the recipes are easy to follow, easy to make and even easier to eat. Those I have tried are:
Blueberry Crumb Cake (Page 215) - like a crumble but in cake form (other fruits can be used if you wish) - yummy
Spiced Apple & Pear Crisp (Page 197) - 'crisp' is the American for our UK 'crumble' and this works very, very well
Boston Cream Trifle (Page 180) - MASSIVE and massively Moorish. I used ready-made Vanilla Custard (not the yellow kind) from the supermarket
Triple-layered Coconut Cake (Page 212) - a stunner of a cake; gooey and gorgeous and only lasted two minutes in my house
Lemon Sour Cream Pound Cake (Page 219) - like a lemon drizzle cake without the drizzle but with a bit more 'zing'
Some of the recipes have secondary suggestions ie the Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella Pizza on Page 102 has a 'Now Try This' suggestion on the right-hand side of the page, where is listed 'Parma Ham', 'Ricotta Sauce', 'Griddled Chicken' as alternatives to the original.Read more ›

This is a DK book, so doesn't read or feel like a genuine American cookbook. It contains many typical American-style recipes but feels like a bit of a compromise. Read morePublished 5 months ago by WearWolfie
