A truly marvellous compendium of facts and illustrations referring to the life of the greatest Archaeologist or our age and his illustrious wife. Presented by a selection of authors, the essays contained in this volume will allow those who have followed the career of these most famous of archaeologists/detectives to acquire a deeper understanding of the life and times of the Emersons and the impact they had on the science of Egyptology. Some of the wisdom of the great Amelia Peabody Emmserson is also collected here for us lesser mortals to refer to in times of need. The dear reader will delight in the splendid illustrations of the sites of Egypt and the daily life of its inhabitants. A who’s who guide to the individuals that have appeared in the published diaries of Mrs Emmerson also appears here, with some rare illustrations of the persons concerned. Of particular note is the beautiful photograph of Rameses as a baby. I have passed many happy hours in contemplation of this most excellent of volumes.

Brilliant. It has been criticized in other reviews for being written as if the Peabody-Emerson family and their exploits and achievements were real. They are not, of course - just take that with a pinch of salt and this is an entertaining addition to the annals, full of genuine facts and information, and very readable. Superb!

I bought this via the marketplace. It is a well-produced book with loads of photos and other illustrations, but no maps at all! A big mistake in my opinion.

The other problem is that this boook tries to maintain the illusion that the other books are not fiction. I would much rather have read about whose genuine exploits the Emersons are supposed to have undertaken in the various stories.

All in all, a very entertaining compendium, but not really what I was expecting.
