Amazon refused to issue a replacement citing that the product was out of warranty. You will be better off buying a £0.99 case of the market, at least if it discolours you can just buy a new one from the saving.

I didn't try the screen protector, because I had already installed a Pro Guard Film beforehand. I like the Pro Guard, but dang, 15 bucks for protective film is a lot. I may have been better off just waiting for this one; it looks high-quality, and comes with a little cleaning cloth and smoothing card. If my Pro Guard film comes to a bad end, I'll install the Amazon Basics film and update this review.
One comment -- the design on the back has concentric circles around the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone. It looks okay, I guess, but kind of has the effect of screaming, "LOOKY HERE! A real, authentic iPHONE! With the Apple logo and everything! YAY ME for having an iPhone!" It's a bit overstated for my taste; I would have preferred a plain, clean back.
Overall, it feels good in the hand, pleasantly rubbery/vinyl-y, it has a little bit of traction so it doesn't slip out of your hand, but not so much that it resists going in and out of your pocket, and it lets most of the beauty of your phone shine through. And it's a truly excellent deal for the price. My advice is: If you're looking for a low-key, slim and sleek case to protect your iPhone from scratches and light dings, try this one first before you agonize for hours over picking one and end up spending 45 bucks. It's a very small gamble and I think you'll be quite pleased.
UPDATE, 10 days later...
Inevitably, I dropped my brand new iPhone. Twice. Once on a tile floor and once on a concrete pathway. I didn't expect much protection from this case (my plan was just not to drop the phone -- this is called "denial"). Fortunately, I have to say the case cushioned the blow both times. My iPhone landed on a corner on the concrete, and then fell face-down, and neither the case nor the phone were damaged. I've officially retired the costlier Case-Mate cover I bought earlier. Even the concentric circles on the back of the AmazonBasics case are starting to grow on me, a little. Highly recommended.
I ordered this case at the same time I ordered my first iPhone, the new 4S, based on the low price and the good reviews (and comments from a friend who lives by his iPhone around the world, who said buying an expensive case was of little utility). It came the same day as the new phone, and after I got the phone initially set up I put the case on it (but not the screen protector). The case fits perfectly, has a good, solid feel, does not materially (to my thinking) detract from the elegance of the phone, and seems to provide good protection.
However, after I got the phone fully set up (getting iCloud and other elements operating), I removed the case and installed the screen protector. I've never had a perfect installation of one of these screen protectors on any phone, and this was no exception. Even though I first used a paper towel lightly dampened with Windex to remove any finger oil, and then used the microfiber cloth that comes with the screen protector to wipe it a bit more, I still got a few specks of something between the protector and the screen. Fortunately with the little "paddle" that comes with the case, I was able to diminish greatly the effect of the specks, but they are there. I don't know how one can do this perfectly.
Now, here's the real rub. I then began replacing the case. I had not turned the phone off when I began this process, and it began making noises and the audio translation returned. After I got it on, I discovered that somehow I had apparently reset the passcode. Of course I had no idea what I had reset it to. After several minutes of panic, and poring through the Web for answers, I found a solution in the iPhone database. It was to restore the phone to its original factory settings from the iCloud backup. This took HOURS - five or so - because it had to reload the entire operating system as well as some other elements. After sweating through that process, all turned out OK. But it was no fun.
So the lesson learned - and passed on here - is this: Turn the damn phone off before you put the case on it!
1. The case had to be clear so I can admire the phone itself. Otherwise, why buy white!?!
2. Solid rubber-like material but still flexible. No hard plastic that can chip, crack, or come flying off when dropped.
3. Easy, direct access to all buttons, jacks, etc.
4. Minimal additional bulk.
6. Under $20.
This case meets all of my requirements, and then some!!! It only costs $8.99. It comes with a nice plastic shield. And the cleaning cloth is a nice addition since Apple no longer includes one with the iPhone.
