The last cover I had, for my previous Kindle, had an LED light to illuminate the screen, and I did find that handy from time to time, but it did make the thing a lot bulkier. It also broke, after a while (the clip, not the light) and that led to the kindle being upgrade in the first place – I discovered that the screens are incredibly fragile. Can’t praise the people at Amazon enough though – they honoured the warranty without quibble, and even gave me a refund o the broken cover which I sent back with the kindle itself.
The cover grips the kindle really well – no chance of it falling out by accident, and while I was a little concerned that there was no elastic to secure the cover closed, like the previous cover had, in practice this has not been any more of a problem than the absence of such a closure is for the typical book.
Well made, quality feel, worth the investment.
The Kindle Touch is easily snapped into the moulded plastic backing which, together with the genuine leather front cover, combine to give an ultra thin protective case which is both stylish and practical.
The microfiber backing of the leather cover is another nice touch which is enhanced by the Kindle name being embossed upon it.
This cover performs its function of protecting the Kindle Touch without noticeably adding to either its weight or its size whilst making it look very stylish and all for under a tenner! I would thoroughly recommend this Kindle accessory.
It arrived today and I have to say I'm thrilled with it and am so glad I went with my instincts. I'm pleased with the colour (olive green). It's not too garish and it's not black or tan. It does feel like leather so I'm not sure why people have said it feels plasticy. Maybe because it's smooth and doesn't have the texture that some leather covers have.
The front cover sits flat against the screen, it doesn't ping back up when closed and it can fold behind the Kindle when it's open (though maybe in time this would stop it lying flat against the screen). I know some people have complained about the lack of a fastening, but I didn't want one of these anyway as it would have made the case bulkier than it is now. And yes, the kindle wording is a nice touch.
It seems as if Amazon have deliberately kept the case as streamlined as possible. It's almost exactly the same size as the Kindle and adds very little extra bulk. I think it looks very stylish and I'm pleased I bought it. If I'd got a cheaper one and then had seen someone else with this I'd have definitely been envious.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned in previous reviews is that the back of the case is moulded plastic, which the Kindle sits in with a rubber seal around the edge to hold it in. It seems as though this is designed to protect the Kindle from knocks etc as it feels quite substantial and protective. The downside to this is that it does make the case heavier than maybe another one would be. It's light on its own, 118g, but adds another 50% to the weight of the Kindle. I've had the Kindle without a case for almost a week now so I've got used to it being light and it does feel heavier in the case (which is why I weighed it out of interest). But I'd rather keep it in the case for the protection and I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Yes, it's more expensive than the other cases. But I think it's one of those things that once you've bought it, you'll soon forget how much you paid for it.
Because I like the size, thickness and weight of the Kindle I didn't want a case that was too thick or heavy and at first I was drawn to a sleeve. I found that they tended to be rather ugly and not protective enough. I looked at flip covers and a variety of book-type covers before settling for this one. I find it fits the Kindle Touch tightly without adding an unacceptable amount of bulk. It is comfortable to hold and protects the screen very well.
If I had a complaint - and it would only be a minor one - I would say that the surface of the case gets marked quite easily. But then, being leather, it's par for the course and is perhaps a measure of how well it protects the Kindle which remains undamaged.
Colour: it said green, but it is more like olive, not bad. Although, I would prefer rusted orange / light grey/ yellow or even white...anyway, it's bit late to suggest, I don't think the touch case still in production....
I would highly recommend it for the current price £9.99, it is much slimmer and nicer looking than those compatible cases on the market
