Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie #1 & #2

Amazing Spider-Man #9 & #41
They all have excellent artwork (the `classic' reprints are by Steve Ditko and John Romita) and verg dood scripting.
Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie Adaptation #1 & #2 is a surprisingly readable adaptation. It doesn't suffer from the usual problem of a film adaptation of appearing to be just a collection of scenes and dialogue strung together; this adaptation's story flows along just like a comic book story, helped by the `voice-over' captions by Peter Parker that fill-in the gaps. It does have the usual problem of fitting in a long story into two comic books, so it feels too short - though not `rushed'. Taking the Spider-Man: Season One (Amazing Spider-Man) volume that retells the origin story as an example, the film really needed about six issues to do it justice. However, this is still a very readable adaptation.
Amazing Spider-Man: The Movie #1 & #2 is an expansion of some of the scenes of the first film, showing them at greater length and filling in a lot of the background story, but more importantly showing them from Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy's point of view, rather than Spider-Man's (though he does get screen-time). This is a story within a story, as it were, showing the civilian/human side of the first film, and definitely fleshing-out Gwen Stacy's character.Read more ›
