Product Description

Product Description

We've been creating our Alpen recipes for nearly forty years now - expertly blending flavours and textures to deliver that unique Alpen taste experience, we select only the very best ingredients. We are very excited to share our latest variety with you - new from Alpen, Trail Bars!

There’s no question that family life has changed a lot since 1932. The classic family unit has had to adapt as we’ve all become busier over the years, and the same could be said for our range of products. To meet these changing needs we have crafted a range of bars which can be enjoyed on the go.

The phrase ‘you can’t be good all of the time’ may not actually stand up in the Weetabix mill, because even with our more tempting cereals and bars, we like to try and take a balanced approach.

Box Contains

Each order comes with 12 x Alpen Chunky Nuts Trail Bar 46g

Glucose syrup and sugar feature high on the list of ingredients, but I have to say these bars don't taste over sweet at all. Nice texture and chewy without being sticky, the overriding taste is of cereal rather than nuts and there is a background flavour of apple. Just the thing to take with you on a walk or bike ride, and I will keep some in the car for emergencies. Definitely one of the better cereal bars I have tasted

Alpen have entered the snack bar market with these trail bars. They're pretty much the same as other bars I've tried, such as Tracker, which is fine. However, I expected a nuttier taste. The wrapper shows nuts form just 15% of the ingredients and they're peanuts and cashews. The flavours of these are lost amongst the oats and sweetness of the apple concentrate used.
Alpen cereal has hazelnuts in its Original mixture, I was expecting this trail bar to be the same. In my view toasted hazelnuts would have given a more nutty flavour to the bar.

It's OK as a snack bar, but a disappointment compared to what Alpen usually has to offer.

or any activity that makes you hungry and uses up calories.

These bars are packed with all sorts of nuts....peanuts, cashews and roasted nuts. They also contain oats which help sustain the body and have the benefit of slow release carbohydrates so you don't get hungry so fast.

They do taste rather dry but are extrememly filling and nutritious. Each bar contains 193kcal and produces 813kJ/.

I would recommend these bars of goodness very highly.

Packed with nuts and other goodies they taste good and do me good. I use them on the golf course or hiking when the energy is flagging and the tummy rumbling. They satisfy both needs and best of all they are enjoyable. Much better than other smaller, sweeter , similar products.

I really like trail bars. They are great for hiking and cycling as they easily fit in a pocket, they don't tend to go rock hard when it's cold and don't melt in the heat. So I'm always keen to try new ones on the market to see how they measure up.

This bar is maybe a little on the dry side but if it were much chewier there's a good chance it would be too sticky to be good as a trail bar, so that's not a big issue. It would be nice to have a few more nuts in it - the ingredients list peanuts and cashews making up 15% of the ingredients between them. Both can be tasted, the cashews perhaps more so, but for a "chunky nut" bar it would be good to have a few more nuts. As it stands it's more like a chunky bar that has a few nuts in it.

All that said the important thing is that it tastes good. While there are these minor things that it might be nice to see changed, the underlying truth is that this is a tasty snack.

The price seems good as well, at full retail they seem a little expensive for what they are but comparable to other similar bars, and at Amazon's price they are comparable to the mainstream chocolate bars you'll find in any newsagent. With the price being comparable I'd choose one of these over something like a Mars or Snickers without question.

So to summarise, the taste is good, the texture is good, and when I get to the end of this box it is a product I will almost certainly buy.

I've tried my fair share of these bars in the past and can honestly say that the new Alpn trail bars are right up there with the best.
The packaging is strong and durable, but still easy to open and the bar is solid enough to be bashed around a bag or rucksack for most of the day without disintegrating - something that is vital for me.

The bar itself is slightly larger than other snack bars I've tried, but it is relatively slimline so it doesn't add too much bulk. It is packed full of nuts, as well as oats and other goodness, and isn't overly sweet, unlike some other bars of the market. The only issues to the sheer volume of nuts etc that are crammed into the bar is that it can take some serious chewing to get through a bite. It isn't really a criticism, because it easily fills a gap and provides energy, and the nuts ensure you feel fuller than you should after having only a single bar, but I did find it easier to chomp my wat through it with a drink. Despite this, however, I really cannot fault Alpen for the bar, and despite being relatively critical of their attempts to branch out in the cereal sector, I will definitely be buying these bars again.

The alertness you had at lunchtime is a distance memory. You've been near motionless in front of your screen for hours. The soup and carbohydrates you ate lie in your belly like a giant sleeping pill. It would be easy to lean forward a bit more, to rest your forehead on your arms - maybe fold up a jacket for a pillow (too much effort) - and take a nap...

No. That would look bad.

Your coworkers are reaching for chocolate bars hidden in their desks, surreptitiously sliding out Double Deckers, Snickers, Star Bars, then closing the drawers. The furtive rustling of wrappers spreads throughout the building.

You get up and make a cup of tea. The Chunky Nut trail bar is goes well with it. An oblong of pressed oats, sugar, and nuts. Oats are healthy. Nuts are healthy. Right? That's long term energy. The bar has a toasty, nutty flavour. It's more satisfying than a bit of chocolate and some water. It is a bit sweet, though. You begin to perk up. 5pm is a long way away, but you'll get there.
