Awwww, what a nice book. 2 people have been in love since they were kids, they separate and come back together six years later. I like the characters and also the humor thrown between the main leads. It's one of those books that make you smile at the end!

once theyd loved under the wild wyoming sky. Then Dave Currick ended their affair and broke Matty Brennans heart. Matty had vowed Dave would rue the day he'd let her go. But now, desperate to save her familys ranch, she swallowed her pride and asked him to marry her! In name only of course...Daves quick agreement stunned her. But it was the searing, intimate wedding kiss that warned her Dave might have an agenda of his own. To protect her vulnerable heart, she had to find out why he'd left her-and why he had married her now!

A Well written contemporary romance set in Wyoming. The story is told both by the hero and heroine (which I love). So we get to understand the misunderstandings. The plot is simple with complex character/romance development (which is my favorite kind of romance, but if you prefer complicated plots this may not be your cup of tea). I did occasionally want to slap the heroine, but to be fair, the author does a good job untangling all the misunderstandings that set the book in motion (and at a acceptable pace). I could easily believe these two people grew up together, fell in love and matured into people who didn't really understand each other. I could easily believe both would end up in this situation. McLinn is very talented in creating believable characters. I enjoyed it and I now want to read the next book in the series. I was trying to think why I'm only giving it three stars because it's a good story. I'm not really sure. I think it's just down to reader taste/ personality. I can easily see other readers giving it five stars.

Dave Currick was everything Matty Brennan wanted for as along as she could remember. Right up until he broke her heart six years ago. Now that she's returned to Wyoming for good, what she wants more than anything is to save her family's ranch. Even if that means swallowing her pride and asking Dave to marry her.

Matty's up to something - Dave knows that much. Just as he knows that Matty needs help, so of course he'll provide it, just as he has all her life. Doing what's best for Matty is second nature. Even when it comes to marrying her in name only. Although he can't resist one hot-blooded kiss after the I-dos.

This was an OK freebie for me. The H & h were nice. The contrived 'misunderstanding' did my head in a bit near the end but not enough to make me dislike the story.

It's always refreshing to get a really nice reader after a disastrous one - and this is exactly what I got with this sweet little contemporary love story.

Matty and Dave, childhood sweethearts that everybody said would end up together, the only thing is it took six whole years of growing up before their happy ending.

The Author had an easy and flowing style, so much so, that I completely forgot the fact that it was peppered with North American English.

With no mistakes, or bug bears, it was a nice entertaining 4 star read.

It would be a perfect beach read, or something to while away a journey if contemporary romance is your thing.

I found that this book was very well-written and that there was attention to detail so when you wondered anything about a situation the writer always explained it. Having said that, though, it was very predictable. You knew that Matty and Dave would get together properly in the end and also it is mostly about their sexual tension which, for me, I find too boring and predictable. If you like Mills and Boon you'll probably like this. Also, I'm not sure why the title is "Almost a Bride" as Matty actually is a bride.

Matty finds out she has inherited the family ranch, Flying W, which has been in her family for several generations. She also learns that it comes with incredible debt. The easiest way to deal with it would be to just let the place go but she can't do that to her family's home so wants to get a grant that will help her out of the financial mess and get the ranch going again. The problem is that she lives in the wrong county to apply for the grant. She comes up with a 'business' plan to get the grant which involves marrying her ex-boyfriend, Dave, who lives in the right county.

Matty really doesn't want to ask Dave to do this because they broke up 6 years ago but she still loves him. He doesn't know this and Matty knows it will be very painful for her to be around Dave while they are in the fake marriage. Turns out that Dave still loves Matty too, but she doesn't know that either. It's pretty funny watching them pretend to be married in the beginning of the book. They have their ups and downs but it's entertaining. Dave is great and tries to do everything he can for Matty, his old friend and love. I liked that he was so dependable and solved Matty's problems so easily. Even with all his good qualities, Dave had issues too, which come out later in the book. I couldn't like Matty. She came up with this plan to save the ranch but didn't think of the consequences, or what affect it might have on anyone else before she acted.

I liked this book but the story of a misunderstanding when Dave broke up with Matty when they were younger and now they are older and have to solve the misunderstanding was not new. The ending is good with a HEA.
