I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end and was sad when it finished. Would have loved for it to go on. Wouldn't be lovely if there was a sequel to it. First C!ass.

Teenager Allie is out int the care system when her parents are jailed for tax fraud. From her somewhat privileged lifestyle, Allie is suddenly living in a home with girls who aren't particularly nice and friendly, and not averse to stealing your things and threatening you with violence. So when the chance to escape with One of the other girls comes along, she takes It but soon realises she has got herself into an even more threatening situation and makes her escape in the middle of the night, flagging down the first vehicle she sees. Enter Bea, an older lady who has had her own financial problems and has run away from her trailer home in her old bakers and equipped with the few possessions she needs to live on. Then she picks up young Allie, and although the relationship is somewhat tentative at first, soon a deep friendship develops and the two set off in the van to drive up the West coast of America, getting by on Bea's social security check, pawning stolen phones and some of Allie's possessions. But it has to end sometime, and that's when Allie's mother is released and she has to return home. What will happen to Bea then?
This is one of the best books I've read so far this year, the ending was just right.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a 'page turner' . Although I was easily drawn into the story so well I became a little frustrated with some of the easy answers to the majority of Allow and Bea' s problems (Casper etc.) .

When relating the theme of the book it can come across as a moral on how we could survive and be happier on much less. It is so much more than that . Bea is a feisty independent older woman and Allie is a young girl wise beyond her years . This was a thoroughly enjoyable read which is refreshingly different from the more common story lines. And thank goodness the end was well written.
