This is like a big hug from Santa wrapped up in one little book. It is simply wonderful and is a fabulous feel good Christmas read. That will be guaranteed to have you in the Christmas spirit and excited for the festive season. This book is about love, friendship, belief in yourself and Christmas. I simply adored this book.
I want to set the scene of this book. Imagine snowflakes, Christmas carols, excitement, and a beautiful plantation house in the heart of Virginia. Sounds good right?
Leah's (our main character and leading lady) grandmother has just passed away and has left Leah and her daughter Sadie her majestic house.
Leah is super excited and she knows that she can now give Sadie the childhood she has dreamed her to have. The only slight catch is that lovely manna has stipulated in her will that Leah has to split the house with a man called David Forester.
Leah and David were once childhood sweethearts. They were inseparable and David was always there to pick Leah up when she fell from grace. But that was all such a long time ago. Since then they haven't spoken at all.
Davids description is of someone gorgeous and you can easily tell where this book is going to go. However I really didn't mind as I took the characters to my heart and wanted to see what happened to them. David has his own business, he is rich and successful and is certain that Leah must sell her part of the house to him. Ok I will admit I'm the beginning he was a bit of an arse but isn't that how all romances in books start out?
Nana isn't daft and she knew exactly what she wanted to happen when she made her will. Crafty old lady.
Jenny is always great at taking the reader on a journey with her characters. You always end up loving them all and wanting to give them all big hugs. You will laugh, you might even cry if your like me and most of all you will be left with a happy feeling in your heart. It will leave you smiling, happy and festive. What more could you possibly want.
Merry Christmas and happy reading everyone.
Leah is a single mother and is working hard to make sure her daughter Sadie doesn't go without anything. Their relationship is very special and the have a really close bond with one another. Leah has the support of her two best friends throughout the novel and this theme of friendship is one of the most noted throughout the book.
David and Leah have known each other since children and although the book is set over a short period of time this history serves as a strong foundation for the new direction their relationship is going in. Leah has a kindness that shone throughout and it's not hard to see how carefully she nurtures her friendships.
The story follows Leah and David as they try to sort out their differing opinions over what should happen with the estate and at times I really could have reached into the book and given David a good shake! Leah had a very close connection with her Nan and this can be felt throughout with all of the ties to family Christmas and the plantation.
One thing I love about Jenny's books is the setting. I can always imagine them so clearly thanks to her vivid and detailed description of the surroundings. I would love to visit Virginia one day to experience it for myself! If you've never read any of Jenny's books, or if you're already a fan you are sure to enjoy this book!
The only disappointment was when I finished this book. I Cannot recommend Jenny Hale enough either. I say that anyone looking for a feel good, festively romantic novel BUY AND READ THIS BOOK! I simply did not want to put it down!
The characters are very nice and you feel like you want to be with them. I loved the book and would recommend it.
