We inherited a pond with some Koi Carp when we moved into a new house. The water was so murky and green and thick that you couldn't see more than an inch through it. We almost never saw the few fish that lived in it and it seemed like a waste of time having such beautiful and expensive fish if we couldn't even enjoy them.
Sadly a few of the fish died, leaving just one and we decided to clear up the pond and then get some baby fish.
I bought this UV filter a few months ago and finally got round to fitting it almost two weeks ago and although the instructions weren't that great, it was easy to put together and install.
I like the fact that it has a see-through section and a little spinny-roundy thing so you can tell that the water is flowing through it.
After a week I couldn't really see much of a difference but then a couple of days later I looked in the pond and found that I could see some of the pipework a good foot below the surface. This morning, 11 days after installation and I can clearly see the bottom of the pond and the last remaining fish (I've called him Derek - a joke lost on most people) having a good hearty morning workout. He likes to swim anti-clockwise round the pond, in case you're interested.
So what I'm getting at is this: this UV filter is bloody brilliant. This was a pond which i'm told had been murky, green and thick with algae for years and in 11 days, its clear.
My only gripe is that it didn't come with a fitted plug, which for a device designed to live outdoors is a bit short sighted I think. It wasn't a problem, I just bought a heavy duty plug from B&Q for a pound or two and fitted that, but it did seem odd that it came without.
When we' get back from holiday, we're getting some baby Koi and having already used the Marillion joke, god knows what we're going to call the little buggers.
