Amazon Review

A super collection of short rhymes which children will love listening to and joining in with. Full of simple sounds and crazy pictures, this is Quentin Blake at his best. The pictures and text are in perfect harmony, inviting readers and listeners to make plenty of noise as they read the rhymes. This is a perfect book for sharing with groups but perhaps not the best choice for bedtime reading! --Philippa Reece --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Review

"I knew it was a classic the instant I saw it . . . The simple verse is brilliant for reading aloud and is perfectly complemented by Blake's spiky, anarchic pictures. An absolute must for the under-fives" (Parents Magazine)

"The illustrations dance through the pages with the speed and riotous rhythm of the poems. Children really begin to get a sense of what language can do when they experience this book" (Child Education)

"Blake's exuberant illustrations positively leap off the page and perfectly match his infectious rhymes. This will have everyone joining in" (The Good Book Guide) --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This mini treasure always goes on holiday with us. The illustrations are, as usual, superb, full of fascinating detail, and there is just enough text on each page to keep kids interested before turning over. My two (aged 6 and 2) love this book.

This is incredibly catchy. I haven't read it for a few weeks and can still remember most of it. My little boy remembers most of it too and enjoyed it from when he was not quite 3 years old. Even when they've only heard part of it they can latch onto the repeated chorus "we all join in". Any book that ends "and when Ferdinand decides to make a chocolate fudge banana cake, what do we do for goodness sake? We all join in!!!" does it for me. It's cheap, it's tiny, and it's a great quickie when the little ones are begging for another story. The illustrations are quirky and lacking in the usual shmaltz that is apparently compulsory for most children's books.

This book was bought as part of my 3 year old's grandson's Christmas.I still have an edition from 13 years ago which my then 5 year old grand-daughter loved especially shouting out "All Join In".I was warned by that grand-daughter that it had to be kept, not given away;hence this purchase.

Delightful little rhyme book from Quentin Blake, who is both author and artist. His books are funny, packed with incident and action, and just right for small children. Affordable too, for those with little ones.

As I can never resist Quentin Blake's marvellous illustrations I bought this book on a whim when my daughter was eighteen months old, expecting to keep it to one side until she was a bit older. Of course, she spotted it immediately and asked for it to be read, and it is already well on its way to becoming a favourite.

The book MUST be read aloud. It contains seven short poems, each with a repeated refrain (ALL JOIN IN) or sound (BEEP! QUACK! WHEEEEEE!) for everyone to say or shout out together. Some of the rhymes have a surprise at the end: for example, the joyful clanging in Sorting out the Kitchen Pans ends in an OUCH! as someone gets hit on the head with one, and this all adds to the fun.

The illustrations contain loads of detail and are packed with humour, so I'm thinking of getting a larger format version (the Mini Treasure paperback pages are only 13.5cm wide by 10.5cm tall) for us all to enjoy. Having said that, the smaller version is easily slipped into a pocket or bag to take out and about, so that your friends, family and even favourite shop assistants can ALL JOIN IN!

This has to be one of Quentin Blakes best stories ever!!!!! The funniest part was when grandma fainted and all the children joined in. It was beautifully illustrated and the chocolate cake looked delicious. I couldn't put the book down and it was a real page turner. I even read the book to my younger brother and he giggled and laughed the whole way through. Quentin Blake you should be very proud of yourself. This book really grabbed my attention. I know lots of other children like me really enjoy your books. Do you think the little boy will eat all the chocolate cake?
