Theo broke my heart, I cried so much through this book not only because I was still trying to come to terms with what happened in Full Tilt, but experiencing what Theo and Kacey were going through. It hurt, it really, really HURT at times. I don't think I've ever read a book that has wreaked such havoc on my heart and feelings.
The epilogues were fantastic, the first one took my breath away with it's simplicity that conveyed everything it needed to.
Like I said already, this was an exquisite read. Poignant, bittersweet, tender, phenomenal, full of acceptance and healing and most of all love. And I adored every single world rocking word.
5+++++ stars for the duet
Emma Scott has the ability to take you on an emotional ride with her writing as not many authors can. You laugh with the characters, you feel hurt and joy, loneliness and desperation, you suffer, you cry (a lot), you love. You feel everything they do; you are them!
This is the magic of Emma's writing. It gives you a piece of fiction in all its tragedy and beauty and makes it your own reality for the time reading and as long as you fall back into the story afterwards.
The following gives a little bit away what happens. I DON'T call it a spoiler as the blurb is telling you already what this second book is about. I won't say much more but if you don't want to know any details just go in and trust that you will not be disappointed. There was only one believable ending and Emma found it!
Unimaginable grief of a woman who lost the love of her life by far too early and a brother who lost more than the older brother. Our hearts broke in FULL TILT and still hurt in ALL IN. You feel sorry for Theo and Kacey, you still love her (from the first book) and fall in love with him. Theo is so strong but so vulnerable... You admire both for different reasons. You accompany them on their stony way through grief. With begin of this story you ask yourself how Kacey will overcome the deep loss and ever will find love again after having given her whole heart to Jonah. There is nothing left to give, you feel. Emma Scott shows you that there is the chance of a second love of your life, a different one but nothing less in its depth.
For me the beauty of this second book - besides the style of writing, the wording which touches you deeply - is that it shows you the slow growth of love out of the togetherness in grief and desperation, friendship and understanding. Who else would understand Kacey better than a man who loved Jonah as much as she did. There was only one possible way this story could find a believable ending, an ending which allowed new love to grow without giving up the old one. They are not competing but standing next to each other, each as beautiful as the other.
I do not want to spoil this for anyone. Giving too much away will spoil the ending of the first part of this incredible duet and I hate spoilers.
All I will say is that your heart will end up glued back together, full and beating fast, once you've read this story.
Theo. Theo. Theo: just the perfect medicine for all the hurt from Full Tilt.
As always, Emma whisked me away from normality and left me gagging for more of her exquisite storytelling.
Thank you for this next installemenr. I forgive you for Jonah. Almost... :)
This book won't be for everyone; it's a romantic, tragic, star crossed tale of a couple which some may feel a bit soppy/cheesy. But we all need this escapism every now and then!
Written so well, you get a real sense of each character and become immersed in how they feel, think.
It ends in such a way I don't see how a third could be possible but if there was another book I'd definitely read it!
In true Emma Scott style this read tore my heart apart then pieced it back together, truly loved this heart breaking, heartfelt read. This author is fast becoming a favourite xx
