Here for the first time is the tragic story of what might have been a magnificent film that became average when Kurosawa was not able to deliver the Japanese footage. It is the story of a perfectionist working in an imperfect medium, of an auteur unable to work with a team, and of a man who felt deeply responsible for giving the Japanese side of a conflict he himself avoided due to family connections.
Written with the input and cooperation of those who were there, reading "All The Emperor's Men" makes you feel as if you are reading a disaster you wish could have been avoided. A fine book.
