All of Cate’s problems are in her head. That may be her greatest strength.
Cate Duncan is a promising young therapist, dedicated to her work. But after her mother’s suicide, she is seized by a paralyzing depression. To save her job, Cate agrees to enter a program with Dr. Angeline MacGregor, run by her stern son, Ben, and housed in a repurposed church. Cate doesn’t quite understand what the program entails, but she soon learns that the skills she will develop there may not only help her learn how to cope with her own problems, but will also lead her to a much greater purpose.
The MacGregor Group is a collection of alternative healers whose unconventional approaches include crystals, aura reading, and psychics. They know that their life’s work invites skepticism, and welcome the chance to prove naysayers wrong. But they need the unique abilities that Cate can bring, and as she slides ever closer to her own abyss, they will do everything in their power to protect Cate from those who wish her harm―including herself.
A powerful novel of suspense and a wildly inventive start to this paranormal romance series, ALL THE BROKEN PLACES engages readers with its striking blend of the supernatural and the psychological.

The cast of this book are phenomenal characters! They are all really likeable and gripping. I loved the main character of Cate. She is so honestly real in her thoughts and feelings.
The thing I loved the most about this book was the fact that it is written in such a realistic way that is doesn't feel so alien and paranormal. The characters reactions to situations are so real and the paranormal aspect is not embellished in a way that would make it too far fetched. It is a seamless journey of discovery for them all, more so for Cate, that flows so well. I also enjoyed how is was covered how people with certain gifts may deal with it in real life and how hard things could be for them. The issues of suicide and dark feelings towards it came across as a very real response.
The romance part of this story was the same. Not forced for sexy or romantic effect, just true to the story and the characters which I loved.
I think the characters in this book are the kind that would stick with you and I loved how they developed a real sense of family throughout the story. It was like watching a really great tv show in my head.
I am looking forward to reading the next book and seeing where this story is going as I feel that there is a lot more to come.
A beautiful and fascinating read, which I really enjoyed.
Cate has special empathic abilities and after the loss of her mother, she is struggling to get her life back on track. Her boss refers her for a special 3 week course otherwise she'll lose her job. What she doesn't understand is that everyone at her placement has different abilities, which at first she is very skeptical about.
I loved Cate's journey with Ben McGregor. At times I found Cate quite annoying when she didn't believe in other peoples abilities even though she was carrying one ability of her own.
Having said this, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was very different from the paranormal books that I normally read.

This is the story of Cate. An intelligent psychologist with too much grief on her hands and a secret she doesn't understand. After the death of her mother, she's told she needs to seek help for her grief. What she doesn't expect is to come into contact with a group of eclectic individuals who have abilities that shadow her own.
Cate is an empath and absorbs the emotions of those around her. Ben is a sexy doctor who thinks he can help her channel her abilities. Through a series of events Cate discovers that what she deals with on a normal basis, as far as her empathetic tendencies go, isn't something out of the norm after all. And with a little guidance from her new group of friends along with Ben, she takes on the challenges they give her, through a week long "paranormal training boot camp" even if she doesn't always believe in what's happening.
I won't go into too much detail about what happens throughout this story, but I will say this. Ms. Eden is a skillful author who paints words on pages that keep you wanting to turn them. Fluid would be a good way to describe her writing style. There wasn't a moment when I didn't want to stop reading, there wasn't a second I wanted to put this book down. The characters are developed, the world building is spot on, and the love interest is delicious. Normally I'm the type of person who likes my books to have more romance, more kissing, more...you know...but I found I didn't need that at all with ATBP. I was perfectly satisfied with the tension there was and enthralled with the moments given to me.
ATBP is an endearing story and not over the top as far as fantasy goes; something to suck you in but not drown you you with strange creatures and what not. In my opinion, it's the perfect balance of contemporary and paranormal meshed together and I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars
The story All the Broken Places: The Healing Edge - Book One by Anise Eden is a paranormal romantic suspense book. This is the story of Cate Duncan. She has become depressed after the death of her mother. This depression has become paralyzing. It is while she is dealing with this that she is referred to a program run by Dr. Angeline MacGregor and her son, Ben. Cate is not sure what to expect. What happens when she agrees to this program not only pushes the boundaries of her belief in the paranormal it also includes dangers that she didn’t see coming. Just what is the MacGregor Group and what is their end goal?
This is a story that had me intrigued from the very beginning and always wondering what would happen next. It is the first book that I have read by the author and I found that she weaves a tale that will have you quickly turning pages to find out what happens next. She gives a lot of detail to the staff of the group as they are alternative healers. They use things such as crystals, aura reading, and psychic abilities. Cate is skeptical of these practices. The group is determined that she believe. Will they be able to make a believer out of Cate?
Ben has a way of frustrating Cate by his actions. He is determined that she enter the program and then when she does he makes sure that she stays. The means by which he does this had me frustrated for Cate as she felt trapped. There is also a different side to Ben that he sometimes shows. He and Cate have conversations where they seem to connect on a deeper level. Cate soon finds that she has feelings for Ben and wonders if he has feelings for her as well. Will Cate tell Ben of her feelings for him? Does Ben have the same feelings for Cate? Cate is a very complicated person. She always wants to help others even when it could mean danger to herself. Will Ben and the others be able to keep Cate safe from those wishing her harm? Could this also mean keeping her safe from herself? This is a wonderful book to get lost in for the afternoon.
All the Broken Places is the first book in the Healing Edge Series by Anise Eden. I fell in love with this paranormal/suspense/romance from the very first page. This is the first book I have wad by this author, but I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I enjoyed how Ms. Eden drew me into the story with relatable characters and extensive plot descriptions.
I love how Cate developed into herself as the story progressed. I could imagine being thrown into a world you didn't understand and become a part of a group daunting. I really enjoyed the concept of this book and hope to read more in the upcoming books in the series. I highly recommend this book it anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.
NIH & especially NIMH have always seemed a little nefarious to me, even though my bff works at the later--I blame it on the Secret of NIMH movie--and I can't wait to see where Cate's abilities lead her.
Plus, I love her equal measures of empathy and skepticism, and her eventual embracing of her new family. I'm so glad that I bought all three books at once because now I get to see how Cate's relationship with Ben evolves.
Brava to Anise Eden!
