As I began reading Dan's incredible book, that hit me like a diamond bullet between the eyes, I understood the neuroscientific basis for the very phenomenon I and my colleagues have been seeking to unravel for work environments around the world...That there is actually a genetic or biological basis for why we're feeling a deep sense of revolution in our need to create radically new ways of working, acting, behaving and organising in the work context. We're doing it wrong, and we weren't built this way.
We are holistic, multi-talented, genius and incredibly complex beings that over-thought how we might scale our understanding of the world around us and within us. It's time now that we rethink everything we've come to know as 'real' and set about to put things right again. Dan Cable suggests that how we've designed working environments, hierarchical management responsibilities and work itself denies this holistic view and puts people unnaturally into boxes that feel more like prisons of the mind...And we wonder then why our people don't feel engaged or appreciated for who they are and what they bring!
Dan's book gets to the heart of this issue within the work context. But it's time we start putting this right for us all - and freeing ourselves to the true potential within all of us.
